Somewhat stationary comer with pop and not ashamed to take some to give some nearing 40 yrs old. Dont think this goes well. Prob needs the funds after legal squabbles? War with Lopez was fantastic!
through God anything is possible. if one allows age to be their determining factor, then right where they're at, is where they'll remain. George did it. Hopkins is doing it.... and though the sport is depriving us fans of 'Great Fights', it is the older generation that is stepping up and challenging the supposed young lions (whom most don't even have much bite).
..besides, when all you know is to fight for a living, it's not like he can go and apply as an executive at a fortune 500 Co. lol. I personally wish him well when that time comes and i've still yet to see a welterweight hit as hard as 'the mighty quinn'. Boxing legend Peyton Sher called Page the hardest hitting welterweight in the business.
..and if he's such a wash at 40, the other guys who aRe relevant when Pages' time comes, shouldn't run from him the way they did when 'he' was relevant... i.e. Tito Trinidad, De La Hoya, Mosley.
(con't)...... i'd have to say though, he does bring action to fights, unlike a lot of the fighters we watch today. I don't know about you, but i've not been getting my $$ worth watching these so called 'fighters' on PPV. .. jus sayin.
"i think we all knew that much. who ever has a future if all that keeps getting brought up is the past? besides, the right fight can have a career rejuvenated in this game, haha...."
I just see his fight with Jose Luis Lopez, and i was impressed with James Page. But i was more disappointed in Jose Luis Lopez, quite a few times he had James Page out on his feet but failed to follow up.
One of the most frustrating performances i've ever seen, which is a shame because Jose Luis Lopez was very talented.
yea the fight with Lopez was quite the test of will. I had always told Page that his toughest opponent he'd ever have to face, should he ever had to face him, would be Lopez. I remember telling him this 8 months prior to the actual fight..... and at that time Lopez's name hadn't even been brought up, only by me...trying to take a quick peek at what the future had in store...ended up being right though. Page prevailed and got the #W and succeeded in defending the title.
FYI - nice story to come, in book form and perhaps big screen. Apparently there's a lot of people still interested to know how such a great story of success, crumbled. There are answers. Despite the mishaps of the career path this incredible athlete chose to take to land him in his current predicament, there is lots of info that could be taken advantage of by the youth from the James Page Story (which is being scouted for a possible 2012 Reality Show slot). Especially, if he gets lucky enough to return home and with hard work, determination and God, land another World Title Shot. This would be history. I wouldn't close my eyes on this one just yet.
