i agree with VD, Lopez was still wobbling around when his guys were pulling him to the corner, he was punching on instinct but was pretty much out of it, wouldn't mind a rematch but Lopez better sharpen up the boxing skills that made him what he was, cause lately he's just been trying to slug it out and rely on his power leaving him open to bombs

Lopez biggest problem is he's always been a sucker for the right hand. He was very lucky to have faced an injured 65% Marquez

his defense used to be a hell of a lot sharper, he's just gotten lazy and kinda egocentric with his power, by the 5th round Salido wasn't landing only the right hand but the left hook as well, all of that was due to Lopez' defensive laziness and his own ego thinking he could come back just cause of his power

Lopez needs to work seriously his defense. I think he could continue, but he was taking shots too easily. This has been my main critic to him, his defense. But, showed a great heart. My respect to you champ (Juanma) and congratulations to Salido.

He was. But it was the right constantly landing that open the door for the left

one thing i didn't get at all either was, Juanma was having success early on with the 1,2 , why the hell didn't he then shoot the right to the body, and work the body when he would back Salido up, his guard was spot on tonight, so Juanma should have tried to bring it down with body work

Really I think fighting in Puerto Rico is one of the worse things Lopez should be doing. He tries to impress to much and gets away from what's working for him in order to try and score the stoppage

Anybody still think Lopez would have a shot against Gamboa after what went on tonight? I sure as hell don't.

completely agree, i said it earlier in the thread, that he was fighting for the crowd instead of boxing and using his jab to work in the shots down the middle

I think it was stopped early, but was probably going to happen eventually. Juanma showed some good toughness, just couldnt get away from those hooks. That first knockdown was a brutal left hook then a brutal right hook, was surprised he got up from that one.

Taking the prior two rounds into account and the fact that his head was bouncing around like a pinball, I'm not gonna think too harshly on the ref for the stoppage. Sure he was fighting back, but there was nothing on his shots and Salido was landing at will. JuanMa has been into heavy trouble more than a few fights now, that has to be considered as well.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

juanma was throwing but not connecting. he got hit too much and is pretty much throwing punches in the air just to survive.

Up until he got knocked down in the 5th round, Lopez seemed to think this fight was going to be a walk in the park. Lot's of credit to Salido for taking JuanMa's title, and becoming the new WBO featherweight champion.

I didnt think it was a bad stoppage. Lopez was getting hit flush and HARD, over and over again. All he was giving back was pitter padder. That's was the kind of fight where a fighters dies.

It was more the timing of the ref's stoppage, then the actual stoppage, Lopez was getting ripped, but he was still fighting. But I agree, at the time the stoppage looked a bit premature, but in retro, I believe the ref did the right thing. He saved Lopez from further punishment, and Salido was in the process of putting his lights out, live to fight another day.
