Amir being unrelaxed in the ring leads to him being gassed out and having a lesser chin. Khan thinks he is already a P4P fighter but without working on the mental aspects of the game the physical tools only will take you so far.

His ego will fail to allow him to bridge the gap of the mental and physical dimensions he truly needs to merge to become great. Mark my words he is always vulnerable to be Knocked out in every fight at any time especially in the second half. I can understand why his promoter made sure the doctor stopped the fight on Saturday.
He was gassed out in under 60 seconds against Prescott? Interesting.

The gist of your post seems to be that Khan has a weak chin which will lead to his downfall. Hmmm... this type of alternative thinking needs some serious thought.
Incorrect. The gist of my post is that he has a weak mental makeup for boxing. His physical skills are fantastic but his mental capacity does not allow him to reach the next level. for example his combinations are as fast as any fighter out there @ 140 but then he leans forward which takes out some of the power and accuracy. He can hardly relax so he is tiring more than he should be and punches are effecting him more than if he was properly relaxed.

When he fought Maidana he was looking up at the scoreboard for time. That is an amateur move and a fighter should always be focused on his opponent at all times. If that happens in a fight it is usually a move done by the loser of the bout. We saw that on Saturday with Berto as well. Berto is another case. All the skills yet he fights on his heels flat footed.

How about a scouting report on Donaire then? The new flavor of the month. Not taking the piss, but just for fun I would want to know what your report is on him.

I hate this argument. There is nothing to suggest that in terms of analysing a sport an armchair fan has to have actually put on gloves to know anything about it.

As an 'unqualified' teacher I had many assumptions about the learning process which I found were quite correct having become 'qualified'. You can apply that to most things. If you follow something enough you are able to make pretty effective deductions about what it is you are following. You don't need a degree in politics to understand world affairs and you don't need to be a professional fighter to know anything about this.

Dogthebountyhunter is simply applying what he has seen of boxing and making deductions about a particular fighter. It is preposterous to suggest that he need lace up before forming an opinion. A lot of it is just common sense.

Totally disagree with this Miles. Once you've been in there & the more experience you get, the more you start to notice with what fighters are doing. You don't need to be a professional fighter, but you need to have been in a gym & boxed at some level yourself imo. A lot of fans think fighters should do something without realizing the dangers of that action.

Anyway back to the thread topic, I think it's ridiculous that McCloskey is humble for what he says yet Khan is an arrogant knob for saying the same. I don't think McCloskey quit, but he certainly didn't look like a guy desperate to stay in there & he fought in a way that would make Audley proud. If he'd done that for the first 2-3 rounds I'd allow it, but six rounds? I think he landed one clean punch all fight. Khan on the other hand had started finding his range and staggering him that round & I said prior to the stoppage to my dad that Khan would stop him that round or the next. Except it was probably all part of Dudey's gameplan to take a few shots & make Amir tire himself out even more

I think Khan is a genuinely nice guy, and it was seeing this video after the Maidana fight that made me a fan. He actually went to the Maidana dressing room to personally apologize for Alex Ariza's abuse of Miguel Diaz, something that to me shows a lot of class.

I'm sure someone will find something wrong with his behaviour then. He probably didn't hand over the title to Maidana or something.

I disagree. Fighters have the experience of getting hit on the head so know what it all feels like and of course they spar etc, but I disagree when you have people like Mayweather telling someone like Merchant that his opinion doesn't matter because he hasn't boxed. A fan is able to analyse technique and strategy from afar and some are very good at it. It is not something I can do particularly well, but there are some knowledgeable people on forums.

I certainly feel I know a lot more about boxing than Kid Thunder, but he has a darn sight more experience in the ring than I do. I think you only have to listen to George Foreman commentating to realise that even some of the greats are not so adept at analysing what is going on in the ring.

That's being good & articulate on TV, a totally different skillset. I fully agree with fighters telling a guy like Merchant about what he knows. How often does Merchant give any insight into any of the technical aspects? When Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones & George Foreman have all told you that you don't know what you're on about, they're probably right

Kid Thunder is not what I'm talking about. He's not had any basic amateur training, he's basically a guy off the road getting into a ring. I'm talking about at least learning the basics as an amateur. Pros don't necessarily know more, but if you've laced them up and learnt to box (not fight which is what KT trys & fails to do), you'll see different things.

I'm not saying some fans can't analyse very well, but I sincerely doubt that they've got more insight than people whose whole lives have been boxing.

Larry Merchant knows his sport, but for sure doesn't really get into technicalities. But my argument is that neither does someone like George Foreman. He was an awful commentator who always seemed to be on a different planet. You compare that with Jones who usually sounds quite adroit. It depends on the individual, and the level of depth and insight can actually sometimes be more insightful from boxing expert who doesn't box rather than the retired pro.

No doubt that a skilled amateur knows what it is like to trade punches and work out etc, but at the end of the day even pro fighters have their shortcomings. If they were so knowledgable you would expect every fighter to be versatile and to be able to adapt to each opponent. It is easier said than done. You look at fighters who are somewhat one dimensional. If they had such a deep understanding of the sport then why are they so limited technically. At the end of the day if you box or don't box, a knowledgeable practitioner or observer will see things that a novice practitioner or observer won't see. I don't neccessarily think you need to be wearing gloves to see these things. I do think that the perspective is quite different, but not always less informed.

Anyway, this is detracting from another Khan slag off thread, so I will abstain and let the other combatants continue.

I live in the county that's right next to LA where the Wildcard Gym is, maybe when Manny trains there I should go visit and talk strategy and technique with Manny because I have subscriptions to HBO and Showtime and watch a lot of boxing while sitting on my couch. That right there gives me the credibility to tell an atg fighter on what he's doing right or wrong in the ring.

I can imagine Missy watching that and thinking 'Look at that gutless two faced, cowardly prick being respectful when he's in the dressing room when we know full well he's actually just a cock.'

I can imagine Missy watching that and thinking 'Look at that gutless two faced, cowardly prick being respectful when he's in the dressing room when we know full well he's actually just a cock.'
