Does Manny stop Shane?

i don't think pacquiao can knock mosley out. if it ends by stoppage it would be the referee stepping in or mosley's corner throwing in the towel. shane though can possibly ko manny within the first 4 rounds, but i'm sure team pac had already prepared for that and would be extra cautious in those early rounds. after 4 rounds, mosley would have slowed down enough to make the fight easy for the pacman for a mid to late round tko.

As it turns out, despite Top rank's announcement of Margarito vs Cotto 2, Antonio has struggled to comeback from the orbital socket eye injury he suffered from his last outing.

Quoting Lance Pugmire of LA Times....

"Antonio Margarito, the former world welterweight boxing champion beaten by Manny Pacquiao in November, is struggling to recover from a right eye injury suffered in that bout and will undergo an extensive examination next week that probably will determine whether his career can resume"....

On a side note.. Robert Garcia, Margarito's trainer, part of whose responsibility as a trainer is to protect the welfare of his fighter which in this case is Margarito's...

In the write-up, I found the comments attributed to him as quite hypocritical...

...."It's hard to think that he'll have to maybe quit like this when there's still million-dollar paydays out there for him," Garcia said. "I always tell these guys to invest their money when they get it, because that next big fight might never come. This is a big hit. He's a close friend."

I saw him as the person directly responsible for this potentially career ending injury to Margarito's. He could have very well thrown in the towel a few rounds earlier for Tony, but he didn't. For what?

I saw it as Robert Garcia's selfish interest rearing its ugly head.

IMO, He was clearly maximizing exposure and advancing his name to bigtime boxing in needlessly finishing the fight but at the expense of Antonio Margarito's health and welfare.

I think the responsibility is that of the referee at the end of the day. Someone who is meant to be independent and in control of proceedings. It was awful the way Margarito was being asked to count the fingers with his one good eye wide open. Of course he could still count, duh! It was an awful injury and he clearly couldn't see for the majority of the fight. Sometimes fights get stopped too early, but this was quite the opposite and ridiculously so.

Was talking about this bout last night with a mate, I asked him, If you were to place a bet on the result, what would ya go for ? he said similar to me Pacman to stop Shane around the 10-11rd mark via TKO.

I Dont think Manny will knock Shane out, but ref to stop the fight about then, I say rd11.

This is always a tough thing to get to a clear answer on. The ref's first job is to protect the safety of the fighter (within the context of boxing of course). It may be better said, protecting the life of the fighter. The ref is handicapped to some degree by only having a limited familiarity with each fighter. He simply may not recognize deterioration quickly enough.

The corner should be the first to recognize issues their fighter is having as they know him best. But they often have a conflict of interest or in other cases will not overrule the wishes of a fighter (a terrible abdication of responsibility).

In my view, the corner is really the first line of defense for a battered fighter and they have in some sense failed if the referee is forced to stop a fight.

But as I noted above, this is a very difficult dynamic and question.
