Although I can see why you'd want to avoid reading the book till the first season is over. In a way it takes something away from it for me knowing what's going to happen. Unless they change major plot points and then I'll just bitch about it

I listen to you people speculating about how characters will turn out and I want to comment on it. Whether you're wrong, right, etc. But all of it would be spoilers. Read the books. There's also one gigantic theory that could be talked about.

    Can't wait till next week.

Who are the favorite characters among all of you who haven't read the book? Besides Tyrion, who is an obvious choice.
I like a lot of the characters. Tyrian and Jon Snow are the two most interesting to me, then Jaime. I love that coat he wears, and his armour, he looks like he's from a different world to the rest of them, all clean cut and dashing, he makes me think of an evil Starbuck from the Battlestar Galactica series in the 70's/80's.

He seems to be quite a complex character.

The little girl is cute, with needle. I think her name is Aya? She reminds of that girl out of Kickass and my hopes are high that at some point she uses her little sword to pop Joffre full of holes.

I'm going to start reading this week.

Let me know how the book goes Bilbo if you pick it up...

It's been a long while since i've read a fiction book, but I really feel I would love sinking right into this world every night before bed... But worry the same as you that reading the book might spoil my experience of the TV series... (a blasphemous sentence for any book lover to read)... I think i'll wait until the first Season is over as well, then can dive into the book and appreciate how much more the book adds to the story I already know.... And all the characters in the series are so good that I won't mind having them as the characters in my head as I read the book.. Something you can't help if you see a movie before reading the book...

There was one thing I didn't pick up on the first time I watched the first episode, but when I re watched it I picked up on it, and that is when the Imp is in the brothel in Winterfell and his brother comes in saying "your sister craves you"... Obviously the first time around I thought nothing of that, but having seen the end, re watching I also picked up that the Imp replies, "she does share our cravings,,, our sister".
So i'm wondering/guessing if the Imp is in on the family "games" as well...

I do hope he turns out to be good.. It seems like he's a bit indifferent towards his family. Like he's with them being their brother, but at the same time, they can dig their own hole and he'll be happy to sit by and be amused watching them fall into it.. I don't know...

The other note I have is I absolutely hate prince Jofree... What a spoilt little turd he is.... In contrast, the youngest Stark girl is cute as hell with her "needle" and I feel a duel one day is called for between her and Jofree....

One of my favorite lines so far.. When the Blonde brother is talking about killing the king if he find out about stuff...

"They'll sing sonets about it.... The war for Cersei's c*nt.."

Eddard Stark is my favorite character, his life is completely bound by duty, but I sense that he has a deeper plan in what he's doing (becoming the hand of the king and all that)
    Like perhaps a revenge play.

Great episode, maybe the best yet. Tyrian is such an epic character.

I find Ned a little dull to be honest. He's just the generic good and upright guy so far, the most one dimensional of all the characters.

I find pretty much everybody else more interesting than him as there is a lot more intrigue going on.

I'm halfway through the first book - trying to keep ahead of the episodes. Thanks for the heads up on this series Ouma! I needed something to delve into, and this is perfect.

That was a quality, quality, hour of TV.

I said at the beginning that I wouldn't bitch about them leaving stuff out/changing stuff, but I did bitch about it last week. But that was partly because I just didn't love last weeks episode. Was everything line for line this week? Of course not, it just wouldn't work. But that was another great episode, as far as it goes I think their have been 3 great episodes (including this one) and one just good one.

And it was just a setup episode. Not a ton of action, but setting up things for the future. And to be fair all of these are just setup episodes, they're just 300-400 pages in of a series that is 4 books long and about 3, 500 pages long. So far.

If there are any complaints it would be that that they only showed like two minutes of the tourny but they found a way to somewhat explain the Hound/Mountain (Mountain that Rides in the books) relationship. The Hound is a great character IMO.

I was watching and wondering how people who haven't read the books could really be keeping up. There's so much back story that they just can't possibly explain in hour long episodes. But they're doing a pretty good job. I.E., the scene with Littlefinger explaining the Hound's relationship with the Mountain, the slave girl's talk with Viserys about the importance of the dragons to the Targaryens, etc.

And I still really like the actors portraying Viserys and Cersei. And Tyrion. And Arya, and Sansa, and Ned, and really most of them. Good casting. Visually, Renly, Robert's brother, doesn't look right, he's supposed to be this big, tall, imposing dude. But whatever. I thought I didn't like Sam, Jon's friend on the wall, but he grew on me. And the same for Littlefinger, I didn't like him last week but I'm starting to think it was good casting.

You have to read the books. Even if its just keeping up with the show. Bcollins I'm sure has a far greater knowledge of what's going on.

And the fifth book is apparently finally coming out. Fingers crossed.

Finally (and I know I've been rambling), this is all just setup. If you like it now, just wait for the second and third books. Epic.

Ned is kind of supposed to be boring. He's the straight man in all of this. The honorable "good" guy in the midst of characters who, for the most part, can't be classified as good or bad.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of Catelyn and am a huge fan of Tyrion, the scene at the end of the episode where she has him taken is another one of those scenes that was great in the book and was great in the show. Good stuff.

Nothing really compares to Tolkien creating a whole language but yeah there is a lot of back story and depth.

The ratings have risen every week. The second season had already been green-lighted but still, a good sign.

I've just watched the first two episodes today and I'm totally hooked. I'll watch the remainder tomorrow and get into the discussion then.

I already think I can see a bunch of things coming, but hopefully there are some good surprises in store too.

Well this was a mother fuckingly stonking good episode.

One of the best hours of tv I've I've ever seen.

I love the brutality of it it all, Tyrian smashing that hill wairrors face in with a shield, the Hounds brother hacking off his horses head, Jiame stabbing Ned guard through the eye!

What an epic epic episode that was.........

And the dragon skull. How cool was that!
