That would have been the job of Osama's lawyers, through an international court of law.

With him at the bottom of the ocean organising his defence team will be now be more difficult...
Exactly.

Now we are never going to know the real score about Osama Bin Laden. He orchestrated 9-11 and that's that. It has never even been conclusively proven and this is likely the way it shall always be.

Should have taken him in and done it the old fashioned way. It makes me question the US elite and how solid their case really is because if it was solid they could have just proven it and then had him executed.

The shoot an unarmed man dead approach just really, really stinks.
Considering they buried him at sea immediately to avoid offending Muslims, surely it would make sense to give him a fair trial to avoid offending them also?

If launching an illegal attack within the sovreign borders of Pakistan, dropping a kill team into his mansion, shooting up the place and taking him out, then tossing his body off a battleship is showing proper consideration to the Arab world it would be interesting to see what they would do when they were trying to cause offence.

Anyone who believes the whole official story on this is a buffoon.

The entire story is so scandalous really. Your second paragraph really puts it into context well. The only way to solve it properly was to take him alive and try him, but when you consider factors such as illegally launching an attack on sovereign soil, the possible lack of evidence against him, the evidence he might have against us etc you realise that it would be opening a serious can of worms. Instead of being a great victory in the 'war against terror' I really percieve this entire incident as them getting egg on their faces once again.

It raises a lot more questions than it answers.

To really cause offence they should have beheaded him on a webcam than marched the body through the street burning Islamic banners and chanting "death to all nonbelievers, death to all muslims".

Its nice to know that even when being dicks, we're better than that.

If all this is untrue, and he did die in 2002, then why are they saying they have just killed him now ?

Have the US got what they want from Afganistan and Iraq and are ready to pull out, so the whole story of him OBL being alive to create the pretence of war is no longer needed so lets pretend we just killed him now ?

It's all rather shady

Al Qaeda Confirms Osama Bin Laden's Death

This seems strange that Al Qaeda would now confirm his death, surely why now, considering he died in 2002

The following stood out for me and has obvious relevance to this thread...

UN human rights investigators have called on the US to disclose the full facts surrounding bin Laden's death, in particular whether there had been any plan to capture him.
They said in certain exceptional cases deadly force may be used in "operations against terrorists" but "the norm should be that terrorists be dealt with as criminals, through legal processes of arrest, trial and judicially-decided punishment".
Bin Laden was unarmed when shot in the head by US commandos.
The White House's shifting story of the attack has raised doubts about US assurances that special operations forces were prepared to take him alive.
An opinion poll of more than 5,000 people surveyed in Pakistan shows that 66% of respondents do not believe that the person killed by US Special Forces was bin Laden.
The YouGov poll adds that three-quarters disapprove of the US operation and over half think it will result in "further violence against the US".

You actually posted a question in response to a question ghost

And sorry to pick bilbo but given the chance his lawyers wouldmy have even had to prove he was innocent according to law they would have only had to give reasonable doubt.
It would have been the prosecutions job to prove guilt

Osama and the US have been odd enemies. In either 1994 or 1996, he issues a manifesto/declaration of war (there's a book about this some place in this room but I'm too lazy to look for it) and I don't recall there being much radical Islam in it. Mostly he complained about the price of oil being too low; he believed that $75/barrel was a good minimum.
If memory serves, there were five specific things he was after.
1)Getting the Russians out of the oil rich "stan" regions.
2)Removing the 'clown' (though he may have said buffoon) in charge of the oil reserves in Iraq. Of course, the US did that for him.
3)Limiting the Iranian influence in the region. The US leads the fight to do just that.
4)Getting the US military out of Saudi Arabia. I believe we closed our bases there in 2003.
5)Overthrowing the House of Saud.

How did Al Qaeda confirm the death?

Did they see the body before it was dumped at sea?

Do they have their own personal line to the white house to clarify things?

Do they put it up on www.AlQaeda.com? Or put up a facebook or twitter status?

The other thing I've noticed is that Al quaeda don't half help the US Government by owning up to and confirming things.....

Again just my thoughts....
