What shocked me about this book was how Ray portrayed himself outside the ring from say 1982-1995. A real jerk.

But IN the ring? An assassin.

I do not like Leonard, I got the tail end of his career when he was manipulative in negotiating deals with Hagler, 12 rounds as opposed to 15, making Lalond weight drained, fighting an old Duran, waiting for Hearn’s to show his weak chin and age. I was so glad he got beat down by Norris which was a big miscalculation on his part and even Macho Man.

However at his best, at welter he was an amazing fighter with unbelievable skill, concentration and heart. Cannot take away the fact that he was one of the greatest welterweights ever.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

I don't know much about him outside the ring, I respect him for what he was able to accomplish, beginning with winning a Gold Medal for the U.S. at the '76 Olympics, going on to promote himself well, having an outstanding career as a Pro, and making a shitload of money along the way.

He seems like a great guy now, I think we all do stupid things in our youth, at least he learned from it.

Yup. Celebrity and time on ones hands is a dangerous combo.
