Not sure about in the US, but in the Uk you're not getting a sanctioned amateur bout over the age of 35

To my knowledge in the U.S.A. we have the "Masters Division" for boxers over the age of 32, and they use 16 oz gloves in their bouts.
We also have tons of "Guns N Hoses" shows where middle aged fire fighters and policeman have amatuer boxing matches against one another.
Also, I believe Brocktonblockbuster is living in Korea where there are no laws, Gods, or morals![]()
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
I don't know what you guys are talking about. I box & I can tell you it seems to me that brockton is made of the right stuff. If you've got heavy enough hands I'd say you can probably compete anywhere up to Super-Middleweight. B-Hop has shown us that dedication can carry you beyond younger, more athletically gifted opponents. The only question is how dedicated are you?
I have really heavy hands. At 47, its about 30 years too late to go into boxing. But I do have regrets. I dont regret not having my nose broken though. I have a really big Italian nose which probably woulda got broken each and every fight, plus in sparring.
I met a wellknown trainer in Newark, NJ's Red Brick Gym back in 1996, and he took one look at me and said I should fight at about 147. Im only 5 foot 6, and my normal out of shape weight is about 185. I know I woulda been good at 147, with real heavy hands for that weight.
Now Im in South Korea, and the 147 pounders are weak as shit, they couldnt knock out a fuckin fly or even a fly's egg. Im seriously thinkin of going into boxing at age 47 just to knock these weak ass motherfuckers out. Yes Im fighting in a much lower quality market, but hey, maybe Ill be the South Korean welterweight champ soon.
Im the Rocky Marciano of the 147 pounders. Grazing blows daze my opponents. I could give a guy a standing 8 count if the WIND from my missed punch hit him just right.![]()
Just kidding, but I can bench 320 pounds as an example of my strength, and I only weigh 174 right now. That's double my weight. How many people can bench press double their weight----and at age 47!
Thanks to everyone who encouraged me. And the ones who say it cant be done, I'll show you by putting a video up here of me.
since when has the bench press translated in to punching power? Just asking.
^
It's always interesting to see what people will actually class as a bench press...
