I'm from near enough the same area as Haye and 'shook' means someone is scared or nervous. In fact, I think if you used that anywhere in London, people would understand what you mean. It is poor English, if you had to check that in a GCSE test you would have to mark him down, he is clearly uneducated and somewhat simple. But having said that, I agree that many native speakers use poor spoken English, it is one reason why I think teachers need to be qualified rather than just from a specific country. You have too many chav inbreds, spouting grammatical weirdness and it is just insulting to the ears.

Anyway, the original point I was making was that Wlad speaks very good English and is arguable more articulate and succinct than Amir Khan. Haye can hold a conversation in his own way, but I think it is limited and cringeworthy at times. He makes silly errors with language that make me shudder. Hatton does too for that matter, but less obviously. There is that 'likkle' thing he says which I find quite weird, but on the whole he has a firm grasp of his tenses.

All in all it is no big deal and not a fight breaker. I am looking forward to it.

I guess in the heat of the moment people lose their way with words and perhaps Haye himself was a bit "shook". It happens sometimes, but the way he kept repeating that oddity just bugged me. One time fair enough, but he just kept saying it and I thought "David Haye, that just isn't on". In fact, I found it downright annoying.

There is no reason why working class people cannot learn appropriate grammatical forms. But as I say, it is but a minor quibble. My spelling can become a bit dodgy when not in full control of my faculties.

i didn't see animosity at all. i saw two men flirting with each other massively!

it starts with the refusal to shake hands. a refusal to touch. haye tries to establish the upper hand, playing hard to get.

then vlad stats to beak down what he sees when he looks at haye... notices how he walks and talks... he comments on haye's "flashy flashy" look and comments specifically on his earrings. he mentions something about medical records...test results maybe...? vlad clearly likes to play safe. he's no fool. he can see haye's wild lifestyle and is weary of std's.

you notice haye starts licking his lips eyes locked on vlad's.

continuing the tease...haye chooses to open by introducing vlad's dickhead like nature to the conversation... mentions something about vlad crawling around on the ground with a shocked like look on his face... something about a man coming for him and how we'll see the gulf between a tremendous little man and good a big man. thats just raw!

then... that crazy stare down... looking at each other. eyes locked. lotsa lip licking. little smiles. you can see the hamsters in their heads spinning: july 2nd, i am gonna bang that dude!

then it happens! at 7:44 haye says it: "you can feel it. oooh... i've got a fucking hard on right now!" crazy!

maybe thats what haye's trainer was talking about when he said we'll never believe what haye's gonna do in the ring.

Miles, when you're calling somone out on their usage of English shouldn't you make sure you're not commiting errors yourself? I found two errors up there in your quote and I'm not even a native speaker. Hence you get a C- haha

That's the thing with spoken language actually, you can't really erase and start again. Though constantly repeating "he's shook" is hardly the way to go about things. Say it once, correct yourself and move on.

Miles, if you were extremely intelligent you'd probably realise that this is a boxing forum... not a linguistics forum. I don't really want to debate whether or not basic social skills fall under the same spectrum as what you would define as intellect though, we'll save that for another day.

The fact remains -

The only thing going into the ring next week are each man's boxing skills... their grammar skills will have their feet up watching the fight on TV.

It would be quite interesting to assess the grammar of some of your favorite boxers and see how well they score... actually fuck it... no it wouldn't.
