The lad is only 20 and I thought he showed great maturity in taking Rhodes out on saturday night. I wondered about him after the Hatton fight but it was his first world title fight and he must have felt some nerves. I'd have him to stop Hatton if they ever fought again, not that they should.

For me he is a very good prospect and could well in a few years be the Premier star of the sport, but for now he just remains a prospect but a very good one who already at 20 years old holds a strap and should the fight with Cotto come off I think I would slightly lean towards him. He is far bigger than Cotto and ever since Miguel was clubbed down with plaster wraps he has not been the same fighter. I'd have my money on Alvarez to take out Chavez Jr and Margarito too.

The kid has solid superstar potential. I think boxingbantz worships this guy and has his statue next to Jesus in his bedroom. I'm not sure he'll be #1 pound for pound in 5 years but he'll be hovering in the top 10. As far as potential opponents for his next fight, it sounds like Mayorga is going to get the nod. Which I believe is perfect for him. Canelo's mechanics are steadily improving and he's got quite a bit of power. I have to disagree with a few people on this thread. I don't see Canelo defeating Cintron, Margarito, or Cotto at this point in his career. In 1 or 2 years, totally differen't story. Mayorga or Angulo should be his next fight. One will show off Canelos technical skills, the other will be a war. Either way, Canelo wins and moves one more rung up the legacy ladder.

He had 36 Million viewers from Mexico. I'd say Mexico is looking for their next great fighter because they are watching JCC jr like that.
