This fight goes to show that a boxer can throw and land more punches than his opponent, knock his opponent down without going down himself, better control the pace of the fight, land more meaningful punches, and look better for wear after the fight, and still come up short on the cards.

You are treating the fight like it is one continuingly scored entity. it isn't. It is, in this case, ten three minute fights added together.

Marble while maybe not a robbery on the scale of martinez cintron, most people seem to think lucas took it, me included. I think the reason many are pissed off is not the scale of the "robbery" but because this is the second time devon got a gift, many feel he lost to kotelnik, and many feel like its the second time lucas got screwed on american soil. I just see no way devon won that fight he wasn't landing shit imo

It's like walking into a bad neighborhood and getting robbed.

Yes, that is why Lucas lost the fight. My point was that, generally, although as this fight shows, not always, when a boxer lands more total punches, knocks another boxer down and isn't knocked down himself, controls the pace throughout the entire fight, lands more meaningful punches throughout the entire fight, looks better for wear and tear at the end of the fight, he wins the fight. Here, that didn't happen, which is why I would say the Alexander/Matthysse fight is the exception, not the rule. This last sentence was my point in the previous post.

As an aside, I had the fight close, I had Matthysse winning, but it was close for me, which is why I wouldn't call it a robbery.

Ironically, my friend and I predicted toward the end of the fight that Alexander would win a split decison though he was CLEARLY losing by a fairly wide margin. It was his hometown and he's a rising star that was coming off a loss, he was going to win no matter what unless he got KO'd. It's all boxing politics smh

Maybe I am overreacting but i was so pissed off when I heard the scores on this I turned off the TV and thought about never watching boxing again. I thought Lucas easily beat Alexander. I cant stand Alexander and cant wait til he gets stretched out....

Angry Re: Alexander vs Mathysse - Spoilers

Just caught up on this without reading anything beforehand and had to come straight on here as I couldn't believe they gave it to Alexander.

For once it appears that everyone agrees that Mathysse won this won! I don't think Alexander is a ticket seller anyway and shit like this is going to turn even more off him- hopefully we wont have to put up with him for too much longer.

I for one wont be watching his fights again, too many poor showings now and a decision like that just pisses me (and most others it appears) off.
    Time for a brew...

Well, I'm in the minority, but I had Alexander winning 95-94. I was disappointed because Mathysse is one of those fighters you can't help but love, he never stops working & has deceptive speed & technique. However, having no access to the net in DC, I watched this only on TV (on 3 occasions, it was my only boxing fix) & I had Alexander taking the first 3 rounds, not that they weren't competitive, but I felt Alexander had definitely done enough. Lucas obviously had the 4th with the KD. I felt Alexander came back really well to take the 5th & 6th quite solidly imo.The 7th & 8th were big rounds for Lucas & I could see an argument for the 8th being a 10-8 although I didn't score it that way. The 9th was Alexander's round for me & it gained him a lot of respect from me for a guy I had very little time for. 10th another big round for Lucas. So I can complain at the decision, although I struggle to see where you could find another round for Alexander, because I felt when Lucas won rounds, he won them by a clear margin. It was a good fight though & made me want to see both again. I'd love Mathysse/Maidana, what a fight that would be.

I haven't been following boxing for awhile, but i watched this one a few days ago. Aswell as the other weekend fights, i thought Devon Alexander vs Lucas Mathysse was a closish fight. But i still think Lucas Mathysse won clearly especially with the knockdown, and he had some big rounds and for certain won 6 or 5 rounds.

I also thought Devon Alexander got a gift against Andriy Kotelnik, and i had him losing that fight 115-113.

I think i draw would of been the best thing to happen that fight was far to close to be called a robbery. I also just watched the fight again on hbo go and i could of gone either way far from a robbery.
