I keep Jones muted most of the time, I can't stand listening to his voice or his "expert" bullshit, and these days to make things even worse, he tends to dominate the mic.

To be fair I'd rather listen to a boxer talking than a glorified spectator like Lampley etc anyday... like George, Roy can wear thin after a while... but most commentators piss me off from the get go.

Honestly, I'd much rather see Roy behind a mic than in a ring nowdays anyway (just as long as he's not fucking rapping!!)

To be honest watching Wlad last week has got me thinking about how the Roy who completely shut Ruiz out would have done. I'd give him a shout. I think he'd be more effective at getting in and out than Haye was and would hopefully take the risk of throwing in bunches too.

Not sure about the size as he is a touch smaller than Haye was, but Haye boxed scared and even still, Wlad was very tentative. If Roy could sting him a few times he might get his respect.

The advantage he'd have had over Haye was that I don't think he'd have thought that he could get Wlad out of there in one shot so wouldn't have spent about 95% of the fight waiting to land one.

To each their own, I've just never have been a fan of "PPV" RJJ, and I like him even less as an announcer, but that's just me, more often then not I have to mute him.

To be fair, I finally got my girlfriend to watch the fighter with me last night... Roy's voice is used in it quite a lot... and by the end of it I was thinking "shut the fuck up roy!!" hehe

If you've ever seen 'I-Spy' with Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy, Eddie's character 'Kelly Robinson' is a dead ringer for a Prime Roy Jones Jr..

He speaks about himself in the 3rd person, he has very quick clever insults for his opponent, and is completely unaware of anything going on that doesn't involve him.

I loved that movie for Murphy's performance alone...hilarious.

That being said, I have a hard time listening to Roy when he's talking about another fighter. It would be like asking Picasso his opinion on Salvador Dali or whoever else. Roy competed with the highest level of skill in a sport where 1 mistake ends a fight and can ruin a career and he did it so effortlessly for so long, I just think every fighter he sees he judges too harshly or judges in comparison to himself.

Also I think there are fighters that know the sport that aren't great communicators and guys that are entertaining to listen to but aren't good at giving the insight into the sport...hell its hard to find a good entertaining fighter that can do color commentary. Shane Mosley might be one I'd look at in the future, I've heard Tarver is good although I don't like him, and hell Foreman does a decent job.
