Default Floyd vs. Ortiz - does Surfer Vic have a chance?

My thoughts are, Mayweather can dominate a fight with his defense, and his skill set is one of the best in the business, so he figures to win a surprisingly competitive 12 round UD over Ortiz.

That being said, the question is does Ortiz have a shot at winning? I think he does for several reasons:

#1. Mayweather's inactivity/ring rust might give Vic the edge he needs, if the fight is competitive and/or turns into a war of attrition.

#2. Vic is a young, strong, determined foe, with the right attitude, if he can take Floyd out of his comfort zone, keep the pressure on, and make a war out of the fight like he did against Berto, I believe he's got a shot at winning.

#3. Few expect Ortiz to win, so he may just throw caution to the wind, go after Floyd, and turn it into a brawl. At age 35 how good is Mayweather's stamina, and how good will his chin be, if Surfer Vic catches him with some big shots?

    Thoughts?

I think based on Floyd's comments that he will stand in front of Ortiz and not be on the outside because he doesn't have to, so the way I see it, it's the fool's fight to lose.

    nuf said.

I think he has less chance than anyone Mayweather has fought for many years now, even in hindsight. It's not a bad matchup of course and should be fun to watch, but Ortiz doesn't have any of the advantages you suggest imo. To think he will "turn it into a war" and win is laughable really.

    I agree with this.

    Floyd should walk a UD.

But, I've been feeling something about this fight, like something might just happen. If he can keep pressing, maybe he can rough up Mayweather a bit, maybe even get a knock down. But the longer the fight goes on, Mayweather just seems to get fitter and will pull away.

Or Ortiz could bottle it, freeze and just get taken apart. Touching gloves when ever he can to acknowledge his beating.

If Mayweather shows up in usual form, no. Vic will get outclassed an pot-shotted all night to a lopsided decision loss.

But if Mayweather's inactivity/legal troubles have taken a toll on him, or at 34 he has suddenly "gotten old" overnight, than Vic could pull the upset.

Ah... you fell for it and you're not even in the ring with him? One of most deeply seeded of emotion of a human being can have. Hope!

I give Ortiz something like 15-20% chance of winning. Less than I gave Haye, around what I'd give Adamek. Maybe I'd give Adamek a touch more.

Ortiz is going to give a good effort, if the odds are really big in Mayweather's favor, I may bet a little something on Surfer Vic.

I wish Ortiz all the luck in the world. He really showed his heart vs Berto (would love to see that rematch!). Vic just gets hit too easy with the right cross...maybe he can lull Floyd into a false sense of security.

Floyd is an exceptional fighter and supremely skilled but I still dislike his personality...I will pay to watch him fight until he retires but I won't pay for this fight. I (like all fight fans) want Manny vs Floyd.

This may in the end resemble the willing and determined Polish calvary charging into the German army than an actual competive boxing match. But I hope he does just that and I think he can have a moment before it's over. Vic is young, strong and wreckless coming off his biggest win and though he may be puffed up a bit mentally, I really think he thinks he can hurt mayweather. Unlike Mosley and Marquez vs Floyd...I don't think he has a clue as to what his own limitations are. That can make for some fun. Not buying Floyds jabber about standing in but I do think he recognizes the need to dispatch Ortiz asap rather than coast and leave wounded guys in the field. I felt Ortiz would batter and get Berto but this is a whole different animal. It'll be fun while it last but I see Mayweather via tko midway.

I can see Floyd winning a decision, but by a KO/TKO? I can't see that at all, Mayweather isn't a big puncher.

Ortiz has a chance. In fact, I'm thinking of sig betting any Floyd fan here.

I'd like to watch the complete 24/7 series first.
