I know several people that have known Magarito for years. By all accounts he is a gentleman and a hard working professional. I have yet to meet anybody in the boxing community that takes the "plaster of Paris wraps" nonsense seriously. What people that know him do talk about is how close he and his wife have always been; she worked to support him as he fought his way up. The hope is that he will come to his senses, stay retired and stay with the woman that he has loved for years.
The problem with the Internet is that, while everybody is entitled to an opinion, now they are all broadcast. There is a pretty thin line between being strong in your beliefs and being a shit talking buffoon.
Keep in mind, Tito Trinidad was cited for illegal wraps and the issue was an extra couple inches of tape. Next week you will all be calling him a cheater; I've seen some of you do it. If you had any freaking clue as to what goes on backstage at a boxing match...the number of people that inspect hand wraps before a fighter is allowed to glove up. What you dingbats are claiming happened is not possible. It just is not fucking possible.

But you are doing the same thing and the fact is he did cheat. Getting caught in the attempt to cheat at cards is one thing and getting caught with loaded gloves before a fight is quite another. Honourable people and seemingly good people cheat all the time and especially athletes. I'm sure he was a great husband and good guy. Sticking inserts with any kind of hardening substance involved into hand wraps is different then changing gauze direction and adding a couple of strips of tape.

I think people are beating a dead horse with this issue regardless. The man has suffered enough and has lost everything really even if he was asleep when he hands were wrapped. The damage is done.
Its no longer about the cheating for me, its about moving on. There is no scientific proof that he cheated before even though if he was willing to for Shane its not a leap to think Capetillo would have loaded for a prime Cotto. And even if he did there is reasonable doubt that Margaito didn't know. Speaking for myself I've crucified the guy enough and dont feel its necessary to hang him upside down on the cross. I've compared him to Resto and its just not the same. If we are going to convict people over issues that may have happened in the past and we look hard enough, we could indict many successful boxers of the modern era and an equal amount of managers and trainers. I do think he most likely had dirty wraps with Cotto but that's not proof that he did or knew about it and I need to let it go.

The man has a right to earn a living and get a second chance just as we all do. Murderers and rapists get better ink then this guy does.

If the forum had been around when Resto was indicted, I would've been the first in line with the pitchforks and the lighted torches. But when.... let's say, less-than-fully-enlightened people try and draw a parallel between the Trinidad issue and the Margarito issue.... I stop listening and chalk it up to ignorance. Same can be said of De La Hoya, who had his own handwrap controversies... and probably just about any other fighter whose tape-wrapping methods have been called into question at one point or another.

You insulted people's intelligence and in the same post showed complete ignorance. That is not an insult, it is a fact. Look into IQ tests and you will understand that what you said was completely ignorant, that's a fact, not a juvenile response. That's what was funny about it.

That's the whole point Margarito did NOT have loaded gloves The used pad that was in the wrap was deemed HARMLESS by the lab that tested it. This whole pantomime was initiated by Nazim Richardson who claimed PLASTER Blocks fell out. The CSAC took off like the keystone kops& suspended Margarito BEFORE the pad had been tested.
I KNOW for certain Margarito's wraps were 100% legit for Cotto 1 to say they were anything else is .preposterous I
A fighters good name & career were severely tarnished by what was proven to be a blatant lie it was a disgrace

One guy admitted he knew the padding was removed from his gloves and went to prison.

There's not a shred of evidence that the other guy fought a single fight with illegal hand-wraps and protests his innocence to this day. Plus has many preeminent figures in the boxing industry willing to back his innocence.

@C.J.Rock were you present when the knuckle pad was made up for the Cotto fight? Was the blood on the inner pad (Mosley fight) ever tested? Have you ever been present pre Mosley when Capetillo made knuckle pads/wrapped hands? If so how were the pads looked after once made up?

These aren't leading questions by the way, just curious.

I think the course of action taken was the right one. For one reason only. The buck for the condition legal or otherwise of equipment falls with Margarito. No one believes a fighter when they say they had no idea the supplements they were taking were illegal. In fact believing them or not is irrelevant, it's their responsibility and they should pay the price. Capetillo or any other trainer saying a fighter could be blissfully unaware of what was in his gauze is irrelevant.
