Default Worst call in history of boxing

What would be the worst call in history?

i'm gonna have 2 go with julio cesar chavez vs. meldrick taylor when richard steele stopped the fight with 2 seconds left.

I tend to disagree with this statement (I know I'm in the minority) because it is a decision that could have saved a life. Most agree that Taylor was not the same after that beating, what would've happend if he had taken one more pounch is anybodies guess.

I think the ref who didn't stop the Paret - Griffith fight made a much wurst call. That one did cause a life.

what about that ref who warned Robin Reid 4 punching Sven Ottke
he also didn't call a knockdown when Reid dropped him, not sure about worst call in history of boxing
but he was definitly the worst ref in the history of boxing

Taylor/Chavez was not a bad call, doesn't matter how much time is left the refs job is to protect the fighters and that's exactly what he did, it only takes one punch to finish a fighter completely and well, as a fighter i thought Taylor was done after that fight, imagine what one more well placed punch would have done

Yes it was a bad call, because Meldrick Taylor deserved the oppertunity to show that he was alright. Richard Steele should have asked him to come forward. It was a terrible call because Meldrick was given no chance to prove that he was alright.

I would have to say the bitting of Evanders ear by Tyson. That was a huge black mark for the sport.

I agree that the Chavez/Taylor stoppage was the worst call ever. Meldrick was winning a championship fight and deserved the benefit of the doubt to continue the fight. And, I'm not so sure that I buy the excuse of Richard Steele not realizing that the fight was seconds away from ending.

In hindsight, it might have been a good call since Taylor could have been even more seriously hurt by Chavez. But, on the other hand, the mind is a powerful force and maybe he would've recovered better from his injuries knowing that he was the new light welter champion of the world.

The ref allways blaimed himself for not stopping it earlier,if you saw the fight as it happened,Kim was so badly hurt allmost from the get go,and was weight loss spent.Fight should have been stopped early,it ended up going to the 14th when Mancini stopped him.

This was strange. Not sure why Mills deducted 1 point from Randall for an un-intentional headbut, especially since Chavez was leading with his head all night. I thought Randall beat him again.

If you recall, Chavez indicated that he didn't wish to continue, and only then did the doc say stop the fight. I think Chavez knew he was beaten, and thus did not give Randall a rematch until like 10yrs later. Considering, Randall was not a big-name fighter, this was one of the cruellest acts in boxing history, and one of the major reasons I don't rank Chavez as high as others. That and his loss/no-rematch with Pernell. Would've like to seen him strep up to fight McGirt, Azumah Nelson. SImon Brown...but he didn't strike me as a champion willing to take risks.

I just watched the Taylor vs Chaves fight and if you watch closly when Steele asked Taylor if you could continue, Taylor looked to the right, and did not respond. HBO blamed this on Lou Duva running up to the apron the second steele asked him, and distracting Taylor, but I think Medrick was on queer street.

Although it is heartbreaking because Chaves probably could not have reached him in 2 seconds.

I also notice that how quick Steele was counting he counted to 8 seconds in about 5 seconds if you can understand that meaning that he counted super fast and he also should of made sure Chavez was in neutral corner and he also should of noticed the red light behind the corner which signals 10 seconds left in the fight.
