    Why?

Why is it an offensive word? What about Paki rather than Pakistani makes it offensive? Is Stani offensive? I mean there are a few countries that end in -stan, and I guess someone could lump them all together with Stani, unless that's already been done and have the same effect, but seriously what about the word makes it offensive? Is it the manner in which it's used, the tone, what it implies...please explain it the way someone would explain it to a Martian who has just set foot on Earth and yes I am absolutely serious, I would like to understand it better.

And neither is Islam or Pakistani so how about you stop with the double standards, all this PC bullshit does is create victims...you don't deal with prejudice or bullying or racism by creating victims, creating victims just keeps those institutions in place, it cements their place in society.....way to help

You get a pass because you do not know the history and meaning of the word. It was used against any brown skinned person is a derogatory and offensive way. Naz use to get called it a lot, so did Takaloo. National Front used it a lot in the 1970's, it really is and should not be a debate, but is surprisingly is. I am not jumping either, just dismayed.

Because in Britain, thankfully more in the recent past than now the word Paki often prefaced the word Bastard and then imminent violence. It was used as away to make somebody less than human. It justified in the eyes of those that used it putting a brick through the brown families window, jumping the non white guy for having the cheek to walk down the street. It is a horrible word because of what it came to symbolise not because those subjected to it saw themselves as victims but because they often were victims. Victims of harassment, bullying, assault, arson and sometimes even murder.

OK, thank you for taking time to explain the history of it's use to me, it does offer insight on the topic.

The point I'm trying to get at is in the end it is just a word and people should not allow a word to upset them, to make them angry, and evoke the reaction that the people yelling that word want. They want people angry, frustrated, emotional, stirred up, they want them to lash out but also to be victims, they want people to feel helpless.....no different than what Ali did to Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, or George Foreman. No different than when Roberto Duran spit at Ray Leonard's wife. There comes a time when a word should mean nothing because it meaning something gives that word power over a population.

The NAACP gave the word 'nigger' a symbolic burial complete with coffin and all, but I don't think they have followed through in destroying the emotions that word conjures up. Saying "n-word" is just ridiculous, it makes people seem like they're in kindergarten.

I guess that takes a unified and unanimous effort to rid those words of their emotional values, but maybe it's time that happened. But hey, I'm just a white dude and I get irked at being called a name here and there so I guess I won't ever understand the true feeling of being called a racist name as being white has always been kind of a popular thing though there are plenty of ethnic slurs but again my people came from the British Isles so not much to bitch about there.

    Thank you as well Beanz

Again, one cannot just hand over power to a word, it's just some letters which are LEARNED to be painful.

Rhubarb....that mean anything to anyone? Well if I yelled that every time I punched you or did something bad to you eventually you'd grow to despise the word and the people who use it because of the actions which you learned follow after it. It is basic Behavioral Psychology and I believe the only way to truly rid a word of its power is to just use it until it looses all meaning....granted that would be a very emotional purge to let all that go, but it COULD be done....then again, white dude here so maybe I'm just talkin out my ass here.

The Middle east consortium via a few global companies (It had a real name, which I forget, but it was a number of countries who sought to join up to be in the controlling position of the world price).
They nearly got control at one point and were a mere vote away from a monopoly on it, its only that they fell apart in disagreement and lost some voters over our Israeli friends doing something or another at the time, that they fucked themselves up.
Usa saw this and have worked very nicely on a number of levels to halt them ever going up the same path and forming into another. A foothold over there is very useful.
It was mainly American companies who were controlling the oil market up till the mid seventies when the Atrabs started taking control/Iranian revolution happened and US control started to slip. Here's a brief history:

Thanks Ill read it later, but reply otherwise Ill forget later and have no point of reference. Top day here, have to go surf while the tides right or ride while the suns out cant make mind up .

Memory, says something about a sisters company or something, they were about to all join together and then the shit hit the fan over something and they didnt, there was a split and it has served America well.

There is a big difference hounding someone for no reason , whatever you say to them ,
the word PAKI is no difference than the word BRIT .
Yes you would be offended if you are Indian and someone ignorantly called you PAKI , of course , I didn't say that there are no idiots who are ignorant to facts.
I've always found the race thing puzzling , EDL , UKIP , etc . protest they are all racists , saying things like close our borders , yet muslims like Chowdrey , Captain HOOK etc preach death to ignorant sheep in the street , and continue to take handouts from the state.
Yes there are racist people but it does work both ways.

The thing that subsequently struck me was that this event exposed all the glaring holes, corruptions, hypocrisies and contradictions in all facets of our society - to the point where I just had to turn my back on it all.

But anyway... Poor lad, if it was an actual soldier, I probably wouldn't mind as much - it's a soldiers job to kill or be killed (sounds terrible) but killing a drummer boy somehow highlights the feeble nature of it all. I mean I doubt this does much to bolster the extremists position. This was a supposed act of terror but we're hardly terrified by it ay?

The only lingering thing is the trial and media coverage. The attackers should have been disposed of quickly and unceremoniously - not have his bloody hands put on national newspapers and television sets for millions of little eyes to see ('terrorism' eh?).
