That interview was heart wrenching
That interview was heart wrenching
Yes, yes it was. That interviewer came off as a real prick as well, even tho he was being polite and such. Still, just leave Ricky alone, I mean Jesus Christ the man just got stopped in front of 20,000 of his supporters.
At least Hatton was lookin pretty good considering all the ring rust and was well ahead on my scorecard. I know another thread has already popped up about Hatton retiring, but I would really love to see a rematch if Ricky is up for it.
Hatton's punch resistance looked good in the head. Only was rocked a bit once. Just the perfect liver punch combined with fatigue did him in.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Hatton was much more reflective and honest in his retirement announcement. I don't worry about him so much now. You are right that the interviewer should have left him alone in that initial interview.
It was a close fight, but Hatton was not the same and he was trying to use the old style in the same way. The engine, speed and timing are not quite there. Once the footwork slowed, Senchenko could target him more easily.
It was too much too soon and Hatton wants only the top, it is right that he bows out.
Why take a fight at welter? Should of started back at lightwelter, thats his weight.
Just got home now. Long night.
The atmosphere was like nothing I've experienced before. It was rattling my chest throughout.
Also, my friends and I applauded Senchenko to the ring and applauded him when he won. It went down really badly.
We thought it was obvious from about RD5 or 6 that Hatton was going to need to sneak his way to the line (not good at the halfway point). But Hatton doesn't really do 'sneaking' so the writing was on the wall. I don't know if it seemed the same on TV but Hatton just looked weak. He was busy at first but never really looked strong to my eye. I was stunned it was a bodyshot though.

Senchenko wants a rematch with Malignaggi:
I finally managed to track down and watch the Quigg Munroe fight because on the night Primetime's broadcasting ability was so utterly, utterly Shite. I have been a Quigg fan for a while and after adjusting after round 1 he dominated. Rendall looked slow and predictable at times and Scott has to be given credit for playing a large part in doing that. He continues to impress and while maybe not being ready for anyone at world level both he and Frampton can take a loss or draw and should now meet before making that step.
