Calzaghe is a great SMW, who might make a great light heavy, but to beat those guys easily is ridiculous. Nobody beats them easily, but I reckon he'd have a chance of winning each one, at SMW.

Thats the thing that gets me with comments like this. There are so many variables at play, a lack of common opponents to really compare and contrast and of course the fact that they have never fought each other.
There are no absolutes in boxing, so to make comments like this is just outlandish. There is always the possibility that Calzaghe could have beaten Jones Jr. How great that possibility is is a different issue. Even Jones Jr has question marks about his resume.
Nothing in boxing is as cut and dry as the sentence you posted...

How can People say Calzaghe could beat fighters like Jones or Toney when he has never mixed with anyone in the same class as these fighters he has'nt beat anybody to make me think he could beat Jones or Toney Jeff Lacy fight did'nt prove alot

Looking at the records of both Toney and Jones at SMW raises questions too. Jones may have fought a developing Hopkins at middleweight, and a weight drained Toney at SMW. But who else exactly? Toney's record at SMW is equally sketchy. On form he could be devastating. But out of shape he was going the distance against fighters he shouldnt (Larry Prather, anyone?). It all becomes about tangents.
Jones Jr is fast, but Calzaghe is fast too. Not as fast as Jones but in his earlier days had KO power. He may very well have caught Jones flush. Calzaghe is faster than most fighters and there is the possiblity of the fight evolving in ways most would think unlikely. Toney went the distance with journeymen. A fighter with handspeed and footwork gave him hell (Jones). Who's to say that Calzaghe couldnt win his fair share of rounds against Toney?
There is always the possibility of fights going a way you choose to deny...
