I was rooting for Arnaoutis...but that got fwocked.

    Truthfully...Harris really REALLY impressed me today...last night...whatever.

I aint a fan of the guy...but Stevie Johnston was the poop back in his day & he still had some fire left in his gun this go around. I was really shocked with how accurate Harris was. Very nice.

He had a lot of speed against Badji...but in the end...who is he.

I don't want to see Roy against a top bill name. I just want him to retire now with his dignity in tact. If he were to fight another name & make a go of it...good for him...but I would rather see him just go out.

    Is that so wrong?

I know that Hulk would say so...but for Christ's sake...Hulk would argue with a hole in the ground just to see how deep the dirt goes.

For some reason...I see no problem with being realistic & critical of your favorite fighters for their own sake. Make any sense?

    Talk to me people.
Here's me talking back atcha wacko, and part of me agrees. If this was just a bit of a jolly so that ajamu could get osme exposure and RJJ could retire as a winner and as a champ (of something), then at least it did serve a purpose.
However, if he intends to use it as a stepping stone to some tougher fights back at the top level, then I don't think it'll work. How many big hitters are going to be enticed by the promise of the NABO title? But the chance of beating RJJ, which they would have a damn good chance of doing, then of course. But who wants to see RJJ get beaten by some mediocre contender, or worse, a washed-up ocntender looking to beat a legend in decline?

I'm hoping to hear the retirement announcement soon. Before it all ends in tears.

Wacko...you aren't serious!!! I told you I bet you a month of coolclicks that in Calzaghe's next fight against a halfway live opponent he looks average and normal.

And I know you aren't saying Glen Johnson would put a beating on Roy if you saw the Johnson Richard Hall fight Have some faith!!!!! DANG!

    Sure I'm serious.

Calzaghe will be fine in his next fight...& if it'll make you happy...I'll take the bet.

Joe hasn't looked ordinary in his whole career...so sure...I'll take the bet. Having a tuff fight & working through it does not equate to ordinary.

IWO, there's no one out there right now that could give Calzaghe the type of fight that your'e speaking of...not Jones, Kessler, Wright, Hopkins, Taylor, or Johnson.

Yes...I'm saying Johnson would beat Jones...again.

Has nothing to do with faith...just a little bit of reasoning.

wacko, I know you aren't serious. Saying Johnson would beat Roy again Did you see the Richard Hall fight? Do the rbr on it? Johnson isn't beating Roy again.

I'm telling you, Calzagjhe aint beating Roy. Calzaghe may look good against someone who stands in front and doesn't move and only throws 2 kinds of punches(left hook and right hook) the entire fight. But Calzaghe doesn't look nearly as good against a counter puncher or someone who decides to duck, move or slip. Watch.

Unfortunately...I really don't believe that was the purpose. Jones is gonna have Evander syndrome, I believe. Have you read the post conference interview? He's ready to go again. Crying shame.

He does. Thing is...there aren't a whole lot of big money options out there...other than Calzaghe & possibley luring Hopkins out for a Super Fight...there's not a lot out there for Roy to bank off of.

No one will really give a shat about the title...but the recognition that could come from a fight with a "revitalized" Jones would be insurmountable.

Not I...hence the reason I want him retired.

    Been watching...both Calzaghe & Jone.

Two of my favorites. Roy's not going to look as fast against Calzaghe as he did against Badji.

Calzaghe aint gonna just stand there & let Roy grin & skip & pop.

    Watch.

    You will be.

Calzaghe leads with all of his punches and is open for a straight shot when he tries to "flurry" he draws back all of his punches below his waist when he throws and leaves himself open for a straight shot, Calzaghe is also notoriously open for uppercuts and leads with his chin in the air, if you sidestep and hook or catch him in between his "flurries" you offset him. Roy WOULD pot shot him all night and go to his body. You watch Joe's fights against counter punchers and see what happens, and don't forget that Roy won't stand there and let Calzaghe smile and potshot him like Lacy did as well

When has Joe looked "average and normal" to you, Starr? Do you believe that his impressive performance against Lacy was an aberration or a fluke?

No, I think it happened exactly as it should have.

Watching Lacy against Sheika, Wiggins and Williams and even Vanderpool didn't tell you what was going to happen? He made Wiggins look like a master class boxing world beater before he finally bailed himself out with power.

It was very apparent to me a long time ago that Lacy started depending on his power more and less on listening to his trainer. He didnt listen to his corner in the Richard Grant fight. He wouldn't listen to Freddie Roach against Wiggins, he didn't listen to Birmingham against Vanderpool Williams or Sheika. And he didn't listen to Birmingham against Calzaghe.

Given Jeff's style and his unwillingness to listen to his corner and depending solely on his power instead of a gameplan, Calzaghe did exactly what he was supposed to do.

The thing is...Jones has taken some very serious beatings of late & Joe has not.

Any time Joe is dropped he get's up off of the deck & guts it out to win.

    Roy Jones jr has not.

You can bet your ass that Joe will do exactly what he is supposed to do & you can believe that Roy will go down.

To be honest, Jones looked good. His handspeed is still there, but he fights more in bursts of activity and Prince whatisname wasnt an A calibre opponent anyways...

Maybe he could beat Tarver now....he should stay away from Calzaghe though...
I don't think that Jones will ever beat Tarver...maybe back in the day when they were kiddies...but not now.

Just because Jones had a good showing against Badji & because Hopkins destroyed Tarver...two rights definently don't make another right...it just ends up being a wrong.

I'm telling you people...Jones steps up...against Hopkins, Calzaghe, or even Johnson...he get's another beating.

miles. Glad you jumped on the DRBR...even if it was at the last moment.
Jones would beat Calzaghe. Johnson would be really tuff for him right now. I doubt B-hop will fight Roy again, but ya never know. Calzaghe would be the highest profile and easiest top level fight for Roy right now.

Yeah I agree with you, Roy could go on winning for a couple more years against limited opposition like Ajamu, people would start talking him up & think it's his second coming, but unfortunately it would all be an illusion. Once Jones steps up to the elite level his chins gonna get shattered again. Roy doesn't need to prove anything more he should step away now

Calzaghe vs. Lacy was an illusion. Jeff isn't as good as people hyped him to be in my opinion, he reminds me of Margarito who will probably be beaten the same way when he fights his "calzaghe"
