He has never travelled anywhere chasing a big fight.
I understand that argument and I even agree to a point - if we are talking about Calzaghe's career as a whole. But puttting up the criticism now, well I find that a bit strange.

I mean, he takes on the biggest fight possible. He seem willing to travel for it. His opponent clearly states himself that he wants the fight wherever it makes the most money. That will be in Cardiff. They agree to fight in Cardiff.

So why the criticism now? It is not like he is dodging the best, or staying home to fight some tv-celebrity or something.
The point is even when he takes on the toughest opponent of his career he still does it all on his terms. Dont be naive and even think he was ever going to travel.
But what does Kessler bring to the table apart from his unbeaton record and his two belts? There both on HBO right now but im certain Warren has more bargaining tools with Calzaghe than Palle has with Kessler when it comes to HBO, also theres tv, British tv brings far more income than the Danish networks, man that statement is flawed, Cazlaghe was willing to travel for $5 million, he went over to Germany ( ok it was Veit but we all know what Germany is like) because it was a big payday. But Palle cant generate $5 million a piece in Denmark, Kessler is coming to the lions den becuase he is getting paid more than he has ever and will probably ever get paid.

I got a feeling after this if Winky overcomes Hopkins it will be Joe v Winky in Cardiff again, i suppose Joe again will be called a chicken S*** etc etc for not travelling, but the most money for both fighters will be in Wales.
The stupid thing about your argument is that if any of the big american names had used the excuse that they bring more to the table so Joe should come fight them in america on their terms u would straight away say they are ducking Joe, and are scared of him.
Yet when Joe does it to Kessler u say it is the right thing to do. I think someone is being a hypocritical fanboy.
So when has Cazlaghe been offered big bucks to go to America? he offered Hopkins $6 million to figth him he agreed then at the 11th hour wanted double, if Calzaghe was offered $6 million he would swim to the States to fight anyone of the top boys, but the money isnt there for Calzaghe he aint that much of a name in the States to generate that moeny, but the money is there 60 thousand fans mate aswell, how many fans in Vegas would watch Hopkins v Calzaghe you would be lucky to get 10 thousand.
Stop being a fanboy. Calzaghe might be getting big offers if he'd actually fought someone of note in the last 10 years. So your saying its good joe is all about money and not about the legacy?

Ducking maybe the wrong word but why did he have a change of heart after agreeing to fight Joe for £3 million in 2002? On the eleventh hour change his demands and wanted double, looking back it wasnt a bad career move as he has made lots more money and he is a futer hall of famer, but why did he do this? He obviously thought this was a very dangerous fight and wasnt worth the biggest payday ( to that date) of his entire carear?

Wonder why he upped his purse demands too and Jones for that matter?

You do realise you're fighting a losing battle there folks. At the end of the day there will always be people who will not rate certain fighters, and no end of argument will convince them. And equally, big fighters will always have their fans and won't see the flaws being pointed out in their fighter. Which is the case on this thread is open to discussion.

That is the best logic I have heard in a long time.....There are some people you are not going to convince anything negative about their fighter no matter how hard you try...I have learned this the hard was LOL....but I still keep plugging away trying

EG--You can never convince me anything bad about Tommy Hearns as far as his career....Though I know of his short comings

Sorry guys! Dont know if it has been mentioned already! Apologies if it has, but what time is this fight on at? Im in ireland and The Lacy fight was on about 2 in the morning to cater for U.S T.V, but Manfredo, Bika and all the others were on at 10 in the evening. I'm hoping it 2 in the morning. But as its two europeans involved, it mightnt hold the same interest as the Lacy fight for American audiences. So they will have it earlier?

I love good debate myself as you know sometimes i moan aswell but we should just be happy with this fight and forget about who ducked who from 4 years ago.

I was out tonight with the boxing reporter from the Sunday Telegraph, and naturally we spread on to the subject of the boxing winter that lies before us. The two biggest fights that British boxing have seen since Lennox Lewis hung up his gloves, possibly even bigger.
And although he's a Welshman like me, we discussed at length the merits of Calzaghe's fights and Hatton's fights, and what was going to happen in the autumn, and he said that the one he wanted to see most was the Hatton fight.
At that point we had a discussion about which fight was bigger, and despite my arguments he said it would be the Hatton v Mayweather fight.

There is no doubt that this is the biggest pair of fights that Britain has seen in a very long time, and for both of them I am choimping at the bit to see them. It's sort of like when I was desperate to read the last of the Lord of the Rings trilogy...except that time I was waiting on some bugger from Llangwyrfon to return it to the library. Despite my fan status of Calzaghe, I guess that I have to admit thatthe biggest fight, on a world scale, is Hatton v Mayweather. And ultimately, all the conversation proved was that I wanted to see both fights really badly.

    Funny thread.

I'm a bit confused by Calzaghe's hand problems. I think somebody said something on here about Joe breaking his hand in four of his last five fights. Which ones did he break them in, cause except for the Ashira fight it didn't seem like he was that bothered, definitely not in the Lacy fight.

Kessler is a much more difficult style than Lacy but if I was a Kessler fan I would be a bit worried that he does have that kind of stand up, stiff style. Still a good fighter and if he can start to adjust to Calzaghe and start timing him coming in with the jab and the right hand it could be a good fight.

Manfredo he broke his hand, not sure if he broke it in Lacy fight but he had problems he said from round 8 and after.

OK, in terms of the Calzaghe hand problems, it is obviously a big issue for him, but one that he has managed to overcome to emphatic success. First off, against Ashira, he broke his hand early on. Against Manfredo (somehow) he managed to fracture his hand. Jeff Lacy, Sakio Bika and Mario Veit I must admit I don't know about, but I guess there are a lot of perceptions of brokjen hand, and his brittle hands might have seen a metatarsal fracture or two that didn't surface into the major press.
