Yes but of all the long time champions out there Calzaghe is the only one unbeaten. He hasn't come close to losing yet, so maybe he is invincible after all?Originally Posted by Starr

Note the quote from Reid near the bottom which says the following....
Reid said: "I can't argue with the decision. Joe was the better boxer on the night and I knew I could not catch him for speed."
Not my words, the words of Reid himself
Calzaghe won that fight, StarrOriginally Posted by Starr
You really think he lost that??
Wacko, ya need to stop actin like Joe Calzaghe is invincible. Saying he would beat both Hopkins and Jones? I mean I know ya like to be popular and this is mostly a UK boxing site so sayin such nonsene makes the Brits happy but at what cost? I mean to give up on your favorite fighter, just to champion Joe Calzaghe, thats not cool. Hopkins and Jones were and are better fighters than Joe Calzaghe has, is or will EVER be. They are legends. He is a very good super middle weight, the best right now. But that is all.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
I disagree completly. At this point in time Calzaghe is superior to both Hopkins and Jones. Father time has dealt his blow and there is no turning it back. In the past Hopkins and Jones could have beaten Calzaghe. But not now.Originally Posted by Hulk
somehow I think if Hopkins or Jones had Lacy in front of them it would have been a lot more one sided then what Calzaghe did.
Neither Hopkins nor Jones has the output now to match CalzagheOriginally Posted by P.G.H Angel Eyes
Both Jones and Hopkins could easily beat every opponent Calzaghe has fought, even now.
You also said Vargas would beat Mosley because Mosley had his father in his cornerOriginally Posted by P.G.H Angel Eyes
Anybody can make outlandish statements![]()
CC mate, but you'll see plenty of outlandish statements on this forum! Calzaghe's had some damn hard fights, and come through em all. And vitally, he's never lost. Give him his three last fights. See if he beats the bg names and cements his legacy, and we'll see a very different story even from the more partisan American fans. I think the Lacy win was the first step to building his amazing legacy. But equally, he could lose the belts and get shown up. Whatever it is, i hope FW comes trhough and makes the big fights to define him one way or the other.Originally Posted by miles
I consider myself a huge Hopkins and Jones fan! I'm still not that big a JC fan, but I respect what he's accomplished, same as the other two.
When I say Joe is too busy for Hopkins, I mean exactly that - Hopkins likes to play chess in the ring, and he's a master at it. But!! 10-12 punches a round just ain't gonna get it done against someone outworking him like Joe would. Hopkins could catch him - he's not a great fighter for nothing - but at this point, I think Joe would overwhelm him. I realize that Hopkins isn't gonna just sit there like Lacy did and wait for it, but I don't think that would make a whole lot of difference.
As for Jones/Calzaghe, I'm sorry. I loved to watch Jones in the ring - alot of us did and still do. But he's a much different fighter now! He's not the same quicksilver boxer he was in his prime. Since Tarver and Johnson taught him what the lights look like from the canvas, he's been reluctant to commit to his offense the way he did when he was on top. I think Roy would've been way too much for JC then, but now it's a whole different ball game. Roy's still a damn fine boxer, but he lost his edge in those KO defeats. While it's possible Jones could outpoint JC, I doubt it - people seem to underestimate Joe's boxing skill ( or overestimate Roy's ).

To be honest Ive been known to lapse as well with the whole outlandish comments thing....I was predicting a Vargas victory too! OOPs :P![]()
But agreed. Its up to Joe now to make the closig stretch of his career count and to make it count big...

At this stage Jones and Hopkins are too long in the tooth....prime for prime is possibly a different story though..
Prime for prime, I think both of them would have beaten Joe. Hopkins\Calzaghe would probably have been more competetive - I think Roy would've been too much for JC before the jump to heavy.
back at ya!
