Ricky Hatton afterwards said: "This was my first fight since my defeat by Mayweather. I promise to continue and to do you proud, thank you very much Manchester."

He's not exactly Mr Talkative in that brief speech to the City of Manchester Stadium.

And this is post number 6,000....if anyone needs to spread rep or anything.

....he might have been a bit loopy, he also said 55 fans were at his fight....then corrected himself saying 55 Thousand fans

the versus commentators appear to never get a long and kept wanting to over talk eachother.

Ricky IMO is on the downslide, floyd may have weaken his chin or he just can't keep in close the way he use to, to avoid his oppenents from getting long shot punches off. I always thought ricky can be successful against anybody if he can' sustain 12 rounds of keeping close to his oppenet to avoid them getting long shots off. Great example is the left hook he is so vulnerable to. Long wide or free open air thrown punches are what does him bad. He does great inclose though and with short punches.

He has struggled against every remotely opponent he's ever faced, Thaxton, Magee, Tackie, Urango, Maussa, Collazo.

    He's so overratted.
Whatever you think of Hatton, to say Tzsyu was shot is a load of sh1te. Why was he shot? He had not had many fights, certainly hadn't been in wars or taken beatings (hard fight aganst Philips admitedly), he was fresh after only 1 fight in 23 months, and had just looked at a career best beating Mitchell who was on the up and favourite for the fight.
Tszyu was very inactive, coming off shoulder surgery, coming into Manchester to give Ricky a chance because
that is the kind of champ Tszyu was.

The win of Hatton over Tszyu was more a result of timing than actual ability. Tszyu trumps Hatton in every category except for pressure.

I am not trying taking away from Hatton's victory over Tszyu. But looking back on it it is not hard to make a case that it was very circumstantial.

Ricky needs to jab more coming in instead of that silly wide leaping lead left hook.

He is past his best clearly but I'd pick him over Malignaggi still.

You don't think fighting less than 2 rounds in 2 years and coming off 2 surgery affected Tzsyu? The Tzsyu, Hatton (and his ref ) beat was not a prime Tzsyu

Well he had just destroyed Mitchell five months or so before.

I don't know why I find myself defending Hatton, I don't even like his fighting style.

Yeah Malignaggi is going to get slaughtered let's be honest he looked like shit tonight for the second outing in a row and was very lucky to escape with a win over a guy he should have outboxed easily.

I thought Ricky looked OK, good certainly not bad. He was hurt a couple times and that's definitely worrying when you look at a Bradley match up. But he was good, had a good activity level and was very accurate with his punches. He abandoned the body as the fight went on, I thought that was a bit of a mistake but he had the fight in the bag at that point.

Was a good performance, probably the best he's looked aside from against Castillo. He had that same demeanor but Lazcano is tough and held his way to decision. Still has power and at 140 I really don't think anybody at least in the current crop is going to beat Hatton until Lamont Peterson steps up. Bradley would be a good fight but I really think Peterson is the future of the division.

Why all the hate on Hatton ? He got stunned once or twice but he did everything apart from the KO, he stunned Lazcano a number of times. Comebacking back from a KO loss he done well, he even said afterwards how nervous he was before the fight. His entrance was brilliant. Paulie looked shit BTW, I give him the fight by a point. I expect Hatton to smash him.

This is a good post. I wouldn't say he had a good performance by any means but you're right about Malagnaggi looking worse than Hatton and about Lazcano holding a lot as well.

I'll have to spread some rep.

I like Hatton but he looks on the slide.Literally walks straight in and that feverish intensity....Body pressure was missing. Rust ?I think Malagnaggi style could give him problems in an ugly way,Not hurt him but walk him around alot.Respect to "safe opponent" Lazcano and in the twilight of career should stay active for another deserved big fight. He lived up to his nick name and caused some panic...rocking Hatton ugly with long left hooks.

Credit to Hatton he slayed the demons of his first loss. Lazcano is an amazingly brave fighter and has earned my respect... how many other fighters would have stayed in there for the full 12 rounds....

Lazcano's style though was made for Hatton - straight ahead - no angles and little head movement. Hatton was hurt a few times trying to get Lazcano out of there - he should box but that's Hatton. What impressed me most about ahtton was his work rate and fitness. Forget this Ricky 'Fatton' stuff he dominated at a high pace for twelve rounds and had plenty left at the end. Reports of Hatton being on the slide are premature I think.

Is there a light welter out there that can serioulsy threaten Ricky ?

Yeah you're definately right about that looping left hook to get in. He's got to get past that bad habit.

I have thought for a while now though that Paulie would beat Hatton; not destroy him, but out box him convincingly to a UD. They both looked like crap tonight, so it's a pick'em IMO.

Exactly, and I don't remeber too many people calling him 'Shot' or giving Hatton a prayer at that point. Same as Lacy who was the next big thing until he lost to JC and then suddenly he was just an overrated rookie. Hindsight is a wonderful thing innit.

And VD, not being prime and being shot are too very different things!
