Default Blind Detective and The Lone Ranger

Had time finally to watch 2 movies, in what was ages after watching my last movie.

Watched a Hong Kong movie, Blind Detective (2013)and The Lone Ranger from Disney with Johnny Depp

Blind Detective is sort of a sequel to director Johnnie To's Mad Detective (2007) - the only similarities are that both movies feature a very good detective. To directed the duo of leading man Andy Lau (mega superstar in Asia) and leading lady Sammi Cheng for the 3rd time. The previous movies were commercial successes. To wanted to work with the pair again. BD is a comedy/crime drama. I misinterpretted the trailer and thought it was a serious crime drama. I preferred the superiour Mad Detective over BD, but BD had its moments. If you are any fan of Lau/Cheng/To, you probably will watch BD regardless of what i say. But if you aren't a fan, you can pass on this. Although if you have time, i recommend you check it out. I liked it despite what it may sound from my mini-review. It's just that I expected something else given the previous To effort in the "zzz Detective" series. If you only have time for one movie and haven't seen it yet, Mad Detective is a must see. It will challenge the viewer, it's not easy to get through, but i feel the movie will unfold with some surprises that will reward your viewing experience. It totally mindfragged me and i loved it!

The Lone Ranger - heard it got bad reviews and may not have done well at the box office. it was roughly 2 hrs and 30 mins long - about 30-45 mins too long IMO. it was entertaining in points, but it was no Pirates of the Carribean. my kids enjoyed it overall (15, 12, and 10). i liked it, but not enough to reco it as a 'go watch this'... it's a 'pick 'em' for me.

Evil Dead (1981) - Solid flick...I could see how in the 80's when I was growing up I could have been frightened by the effects in that movie. Looking at it now it's just silly.

Evil Dead 2 (1987) - I haven't gotten all the way through it yet, but will by the end of the day. It causes some continuity issues when paired with Evil Dead, but it's a solid movie.

I can't believe it took me so long to watch those movies...I guess I was just never really into horror as a genre, and to this day I'm not terribly fond of it as it's difficult for me to get enjoyment out of those movies if I'm watching them by myself, I'd much rather watch something else.

FYI from watching Room 237 about Kubrick's The Shining, I learned Kubrick was going to make a movie about the Holocaust but ended up not doing it due to Spielberg doing 'Schindler's List'. I often wonder about what movies, what genre's Kubrick could have done and improved. I think he would have been great if he was given something like 'American Psycho' or 'Saw' or 'Saving Private Ryan' or 'The Lord of the Rings' or 'Game of Thrones' ....Kubrick was a genius

I watched eraser head, what can be said about that movie. David Lynch must have been doing LSD.

    David Lynch is NUTS!

I watched the Brit/Romanian movie Strigoi....pretty fucking funny. It's a bit of a half hearted spoof, the 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' of horror movies.

'Dead Heat' starring Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo. A decent totally 80's buddy cop flick!

I also watched gone with wind a week or so ago. Damn what a massive movie. Years ahead of its time. I usually don't like any romance based movies but Gone had so much too it I found it amazing.

That was my mums favourite when I was a kid, so I had to watch it a billion times. Dozens of years later I find myself watching it virtually every Christmas.

Finally watched Shutter Island last night after hearing I should, thought it was a terrific movie. Best thriller/suspense film I've seen since Mystic River. Huge Hitchcock vibes, great plot, really clever mindfuck of a movie that makes you really watch.
