I'm not American, so aren't as close to it as some of the other guys on here.
I remember his presidency though. He showed huge loyalty to be Reagans VP for so long, plusnhe was eminently qualified to be US President (war hero who actually fought for his country, Director of the CIA and VP for 8 years.)
As I recall, he was criticised for being a 'foreign policy' President ..... but he did that pretty well. He oversaw the fall of Communism without rubbing the Russians' nose in it, he freed Kuwait and didn't get embroiled in a second (and illegal) Vietnam in Iraq.
Always came across as principled and a gentleman.
Could do with more leaders like him around in the world at the moment, really.
