    THat fight was beautiful!!! Awesome.
    WORD!
we need villans in boxing to make it more fun when the get fucked up but Mayorga takes it too far. F*** 'im. He done.

I think I'm the only one who saw De La Hoya as the real villain.

He handpicked Mayorga as his comeback fight because a) he knew he would be too skilful for Mayorga and win, and b) he knew Mayorga's outrageous personality would guarantee huge publicity and big ppv sales, whilst at the same time projecting to the public that Oscar was the real good guy, the golden boy with his squeaky clean image who the fans could get behind and support as he took on boxing's bad boy.

Then behind the scenes we see the reality that Oscar fleeces Mayorga taking $8 million dollars to Mayorgas $2 million even though he hasn't fought in two years and Mayorga is defendig champ.

Then we also find out that Mayorga is secretly a real good guy, supplying his old village with electricity and being actively involved in raising living conditions in the slums of Nicaragua.

Now Oscar can bask in the glory, his already perfectly manufactured golden boy image restated and he can go on to make another $20 million dollars or so to spend on more yachts and luxery villa's when he fights Mayweather in September.

Ha you got me with the second part! My point is though that Oscar is not the squeaky clean perfect human being he is made out to be. He is a ruthless businessman and negotiator.

Mayorga is a brawler and relies on pre-fight intimidation to psyche himself up and also to sell the fight.

Outside the ring he is completely different, as Oscar evidenced when he said Mayorga apologised to him afterwards for all the things he had said.

agreed, bilbo. mayorga is not quite the badman that he builds himself as being when building up a fight....after the fight you always see mayorga as he probably is much of the time. he seems to be especially fond of his mother. he likes the booze and cigs, but most of us do anyway...

Yeah and I imagine that away from the cameras De La Hoya probably goes home to his supermodel wife, opens up his briefcase full of thousands and thousands of $100 dollar bills and they both cover themselves in all the money and fuck each other all the time cackling and laughing like some evil Bond villains after yet another glorious success in milking his golden boy image for all its worth...........

Miles the only reason Mayorga was courteous was Oscar took the high road and went to him even put his arms around Mayorga and spoke to him like a man, even saying that he forgave him for all his completely unnecessary comments, I seriously doubt that if Oscar did not walk across the ring and show Mayorga how to be gracious, Mayorga never would have approached Oscar.....plus a good ass wuppin always humbles you

(You guy's tend to forget ( or just hate )....This is Oscar De La Hoya!!!!!!....Love him , Hate him or feel in between...this guy is one of the best P4P fighters in the last 20 yrs.....His record speaks for itself....He has only been stopped by Hopkins...Oscar was outsized and out gunned.....Mayorga is a great slugger but nothing more!!!!...De la Hoya has beaten guys 10 times better than him...Oscar also a punch on him ( not one punch power but not a pitty pat guy either) Look at Oscar's resume....Tito beat Mayorga silly....after a long lay off....Oscar has not had as much time off as Trinidad did...C'mon guys go with your knoweldge of the sport not your personal feelings....De La Hoya also has a mean streak in him when he wants)

Like I said in my post on the other thread.......This is Oscar De La Hoya....love him or hate him he is one of the greats of this era.....and Mayorgs is nothing more than a slugger....And a sloppy one at that!!!!!

I am amazed that you guys struggle to pick apart Oscar...he's human...but when he was puttin on that bang up show & breakin gMayorga down...I didnt hear any complaints.

Oscar is an entertainer, a promoter, & a fantastic boxer...no matter what anyone things of him negatively...he's good for boxing & last night made me proud to be a boxing fan.

Hell why shouldn't he be a ruthless business man and negotiater....what about all the other promoters out there who do the same....Hell did Tyson deserve his 23 plus million for his fight with Spinks?....Hell take as much as you can get because any other fighter or promoter would do the same

I think what your missing out is, love him or hate him, but make sure you respect him!

The Golden boy is a self made man; hes used every single one of his attributes to get where he is, a hall of famer, one of the best and biggest promotions and minted

It will be a sad day for boxing when we lose him as a fighter.

Seems like he's been around forever, but he is still only 33!
    BHop is what?
    40?
Oscar could still be around for a while if he wants to.
His style isn't crash & burn, & he is intelligent.
He will be with us as long as he has the fire in his heart IMO.
