Is it me, or did Mike Spinks WIMP TF OUT?

At LH I'm sure that is all true. But at HW, he was differnt. Winning two gift decisions against Holmes and then wussin out against Tyson was anything but Valiant. Holmes losing effort against Tyson showed who really won those fight, and who had the heart. Steve Zouski fought Tyson a lot more bravely than Spinks, and I don't think he ever even cracked the top 10. But Spinks's loss to Tyson was not the most pathetic. That honor would go to Bruce Seldon, or perhaps Clifford Etienne. It's a toss up.

He bettered Larry Holmes and Gerry Cooney, better than anyone else had up to that point. He took a 12+ years unbeaten record off of Holmes, and he dominated Cooney much more than Holmes did, despite giving away 20lbs+ to both. He was a warrior at Heavyweight as well

George Foreman KO'd Cooney in one round. So he's better than all of em!

And Cooney was comming off a 30 month retirement, having been sparked by Spinks; so thus The Jinx ruined him.

I cant confirm that. I can however confirm that as soon as he got hit the BYATCH in him came out and all he could think about was "In ten seconds. . . .I'll be 20 million dollars richer". And so he was.

He was definitely scared, but I wouldn't call anyone who got in the ring with Tyson a wimp. His fear probably cost him any samll chance he had in the fight, but it's not as if he took a knee or anything, he did get back up to be knocked out probably so I wouldn't call him a wimp/coward.

I don't think that gives us good ground to question Spink's heart. he had proved that many times before. Anyone who gets into a ring has to have some bravery and heart.

IMO, the only people who question boxers' hearts are those who have never had their own aortic credentials fully examined themselves.

its simple really, he chickened out the night of the fight.....he was pissing his panties since the fight was announced.
He was stiff and awkard when he was in the ring, and Tyson was just too strong for him.

Great analysis...Spinks tried to fight Tyson throwing punches instead of running...but that night Tyson was the best heavyweight on the planet and M. Spinks paid the price...right on about the heart check too

You make a good point. Braxton/Quawi was an animal. An interestingly enuff gave Holyfield two tougher fights than Mike Tyson did. My main complaint with Spinks punkin out like he did against Tyson is this: Don't sign for a mega fight, claim you can win, want to win, etc. and then not even come to fight. That is what bugs me.
