thats sounds great--seeing how i have no formal fight training my learning curve is much higher
plus having an athletic background has to help accelerate the process i would imagine

You can't beat a few rounds of skipping, few rounds on the bags for working up a sweat and getting shredded and the satisfaction of pounding the leather!
Your muscle at the minute is probably a bit useless if your honest - sure you can bench a lot but the kind of changes your body will make by switching from heavy weight / body building will be massive.
You'll certainly gain a lot more useful muscle and stamina will be regained.
Boxing training is such a great thing, because you can do a lot of it anywear - the push-ups, shadowing, footwork and skipping... i always found the types of man in a boxing gym to be respectful and helpful (so long as your respectful and humble to !)
Go for it !
thats just it--being weightlifting strong is cool if u want to being able to lift things off the floor once--but thats about it----------im looking to get shredded and in great shapeOriginally Posted by CityOfGod
Good for you brother.. Never to old to start a boxing workout routine . Boxing is a great workout, If you have a nice boxing gym around I recommend doing that, go to the front desk tell them your goals and they can help you out. If not get some boxing workout DVD’s from Everlast they have beginner intermediate and advanced. Get a good heavy bag with a spring system hang it in the garage.. Get some sparring gloves with the loop closure system I like them better then bag gloves. , and some gel wraps, get a speed bag and double end bag. And a jump rope .. Watch those videos learn to through punches correctly, don’t get bad habits, technique is everything in boxing. And you can do it right from home . …Originally Posted by LawHoops
And yes and in no time you will have the ability to kick anyone’s average ass! Because you will have the technique to land a punch that matters . Most regular folk don’t through punches correctly thus they lack power. And are usually very wide you can see them coming a mile away . But don’t go out and start troubles, with this new confidence you will find it easier to walk away from a situation rather then fight it out on the streets. Because in your mind you know if it comes to that it’s a forgone conclusion. Your going to kick their ass.
The best of luck to you!
Your not to old to learn to fight..how is your wind? at 260+ I would expect you to be putting in 2-3 mile runs at a sub 9min mile pace at least.....if you got into a good gym and dedicated yourself..(I don't know how much time you have) but at least 4 times a week for 2hrs on top of the running you could be fighting Amateur inside of 3 months. You can fight competively in the amateurs until you turn 35...so yes you have time...and You might even be able to turn pro in 2 1/2 years and fight some local shows.....Becomeing a world champ is probably out of the question but a good local fighter is not to much to ask for....Originally Posted by LawHoops

I don't think it he would be too old...he is a natural athlete and in the SHW division for amateurs..that is an easy division to get into...plus if he dedicates himself and gets with a good gym he could mix it up in the amateurs inside of 3 months or so....after a couple of years..who knowsOriginally Posted by miles

a**...apparently you have trouble reading and understanding what you have read...he states that he is now 266lbs at 6'3"...that is not fat by no means...apparently you have never lifted enough to put on serious muscle....if you had you would not have made such an asinine comment like that.....if he has any wind at all he could get into amateur boxing TODAY and beat over half of those fat super heavies....Originally Posted by X

It depends on his goals, and if he's naturally talented. when you start late you need natural talent. he might have some fun the Golden Gloves once he learns the sport they have an age group and level he can get intoOriginally Posted by bigragu
Your never too old to learn to fight... but you may be too old to do things like become an olympic champion or a successful pro boxer.
He could fight in the GG TODAY!! the cut off is 35 years old....they even implemented a novice GG granted the winners don't get to go to the nationals but they can win the local tournament....Originally Posted by Lords Gym
