Sam Peter: the public relations nightmare

I think his power is VASTLY overrated (mainly due to the Williams KO)...he hits people on the back of the head, he doesn't punch quick or accurately which takes away from his power.

I also think he's so one dimensional that Danny Williams would beat him up badly

wow...that is a bold statement....I'm not saying that couldn't happen....but if he actually threw straight power shots and learned to actually fight...and any of those trainers mentioned above could do that....he could be dangerous...

The man has has 3 or 4 fights and he hasn't learned jack-shit. A year ago everyone out there was thinking that Peter was just a young talent on the horizon who had the tools to be the next Tyson if he could only gain more experience.

Personally, I was never that fond of the guy only because of the way the public pre-maturely put him on a pedastal.

The guy does have a lot of power, but you can also see most of his punches coming a mile away. The only reason why Williams didn't is because they were turning when he got hit.

I called him David Izon II, he seems to have a better chin than Izon but I think his power is not as effective as say Wladimir Klitschko. Wlad throws straight, short, fast punches that flow off his jab.

With Sam Peter the way to go would be work off his head movement (which he has 0 of) jab to get on the inside, and throw short hooks and uppercuts. But with his punching form he has obviously not learned anything, he is probably doing the whole George Foreman routine on the heavybag and his trainers are saying "yeah good, love the power" when really he should not use so much power so often, you don't have to throw a punch at 100% to knock someone out

I wanted to see him fight Briggs to see if he truly learned anything but that Long fight was a sham!

Problem is that his management team is putting him against absolute D-level competition in order to boost his confidence. Too bad he won't learn anything fighting there.

Why are you beating up on Brad Cooney? That dude usually cranks out some bigtime interviews. If any of you know a thing about Sam Peter, you should know interviewing him is about as interesting as watching paint dry, I know, because I used to write for boxing websites. Cooney probably only had a few minutes with the guy in the first place.

I tried interviewing him when I ran into him in Vegas. The problem is he doesn't speak the language very well. I asked what his plans were over the next two years , who would he like to fight and he said " I don't understand the question . "

His manager had more face time with reporters than he did . The language barrier is the reason He ain't runnin for office folks. He's just looking for a name he can KO. After talking with him, now I know why a lot of fighters say " I have to talk with [my promoter] and my [team] .


Sidenote : I have a post fight interview coming out this week with Chazz Witherspoon on DHB . Great guy . Very articulate. HE breaks down his performance in a very honest manner.

Sam peter is a very strong fighter. I don’t know how that can be debated? He lacks in other area’s no doubt. But Guys Sam was knocking Wlad around the ring like a rag doll before Wlad started holding on and making adjustments.. In this division, a good chin and a big punch is going to take you a long way. Also I thought Peter’s stamina was pretty good for 6”1 260. When he learns some head movement and gets his weight in check. He will be champion. He is a diamond in the ruff, a little polishing and he will shine. ! No doubt about it ! IMO

Well Um?? Uh... ...I am not really sure what happened there...Is Brad new at this If I ever turned something like that in to Saddo I hope either him or Curtis would have the heart to tell me this reporting angle isn't quite my thing ....Peter only answered the questions given...The guy cant do any more than that...Peters is a little more humble from what I have seen in the past..( at least what we had to read anyway ) I think being stunned by Wlad might have given him some of that....I think the real question here is Does Brad watch Boxing??
