WBC super welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya won't announce his future plans until tomorrow, but Kassim Ouma, who is promoted by Oscar and fights in the same division, may have let the cat out of the bag. According to the Daily Monitor in Ouma's native Uganda, Team Ouma is celebrating Oscar's retirement because it will allow Kassim to fight for the vacant WBC title earlier than expected.

I would retire if I was him. What does beating Floyd do for him? (apart from the $$)
The history books will just read that Floyd was to small for him if he wins. Even though right now PBF is the popular no1.p4p pick, who is going to remember that in years to come if Oscar KHTFO. I don't see any big names on Mayweathers record above 135 pound.
ODLH isn't retiring. He's allowing Shane to try and get a fight with PBF after Vargas and get one last big payday for Shane. After PBF disposes of Shane, ODLH is gonna come out and try to fight PBF.
Five reasons why ODLH - PBF will happen next year
5. Shane beat ODLH twice, PBF will beat Shane, ODLH will get a chance to kill two birds with one stone.
4. Mosley - Mayweather will be a HUGE moneymaker for Golden Boy Promotions.
3. ODLH has a huge ego and he wants to go out knowing he was the best. He will try at least.
2. 30 Million Dollars. Letting Mayweather defeat more big names just makes PBF a bigger PPV attraction and in turn, puts more money in the pot for ODLH.
1. Let's face it, De La Hoya is a huge famewhore. He needs this fight to stay in the spotlight. He's the Paris Hilton of boxing.
I think that De La Hoya planned to retire after the Mayorga fight. He'll concentrate now on the promoting side of the business where he'll still be in the spotlight albeit in a different manner. I don't think he'll gain much praise from another fight with Shane Mosley (Other than maybe his own satisfaction) as public opinion will always say it wasn't the same Shane he'd originally faced (in the first encounter at least) blah blah blah.Originally Posted by albsur2006
I really believe that a fight with PBF is a non-starter, not because De La Hoya wants to avoid it, but because De La Hoya has stated that he would not fight the son of his trainer and he would not fight anyone without his current trainer, therefore, a fight with PBF can't happen. Simple as that. I'd love to see De La Hoya and Mayweather Jnr fight but i'd have loved to see Hagler V Hearns 2! Unfortunately fights that we'd love to see sometimes don't happen.
It was a great peformance (against Mayorga) for De La Hoya to retire on, and best of luck to him if that is what he chooses to do.
Let him retire then. Good for Oscar. He will probably say it was from injuries
Hell if he doesn't want to fight any more then he should retire and make babies and count his money. No reason to stick around so long that he just wants to pick up paydays.

plus he fought and brutalized a better vargas then tito or mosely beat.......nando was all juiced up and motivated to whip dlh's ass and dlh still outlasted him and knocked him TFO
plus his first real megafight was against rafael ruelas for the lightweight belt---alot of people forget this fight and why i dont know...ruelas was unbeaten and seen as the favorite to whip dlh--and dlh starched him easy

Other than that Larry Mechant, Harold Letterman, and Jim Lampley all scored the fight for Whitaker 7-5 with Pernell cruising the last two rounds. After the fight Oscar was not even happy and he just won the WW title. Ditto for the Quartey fight, even though many boxing analyst were split on this fight 50/50 Quartey had the slight majority for the sports writers, and no way was it easy for Oscar, damn the fight was a split decision, what do you mean. The Trinidad fight was finally when Oscar recieved the majority of the sports writers votes when it came to the decision, many thought Oscar won 7-5 where about 20% gave Tito the nod, whatever way you scored it it was a long way from a dominant performance. The Shane Mosley fight (1) was not a close fight, I don't know what you mean. Shane won the fight at least 8-4 and he dominated the last 6 rounds which are the championship rounds, many analyst scored that fight 9-3 so sorry. As far as Hopkins, he was just a better fighter than ODH, nobody gave Trinidad the benefit of the doubt when he lost too Hopkins even though he was a blown up WW, they just stated how brilliant Hopkins was, so ODH should suffer the same fate, he got KO'd plain an simple. One more thing Mosley Vs ODH 2 was not a mega fight, Shane Mosley had showed signs of slowing down after he recieved the head butt from Vernon Forrest and was never the same again, I agree that Oscar should have won that fight, but the fight was lackluster, slow pace, and no where near as exciting as the first fight. ODH was not facing the same Mosley

Secondly Trinidad faced Vargas when he was at the top of his game, undefeated and destined for greatness. He ruined Vargas, and Vargas showed signs of slowing down after that fight (getting knocked down by journeymen). Also the Vargas fight with ODH was very competitive and close until Oscar landed that big right hand that wobbled Vargas, one round later came the KO. Vargas and Mayorga where damaged goods by the time ODH got to them.
how will we find out? will they show it on espn or something?
