I agree with you, I think this would be a good time for him to take a fight with Lacy. With Lacy's first bout back he will still be working on implementing a new style (if he decides to try to box more). I think that would be an opportune time to take him. Manfredo doesnt have the power to do what Joe did, but I think he could outbox him. He would have to watch out for Lacy's power, Manfredo is not as slick as Joe and it would be a matter of when he gets hit how well he takes it. I dont know if it is the Contender people holding him back or if it is the competition that is not sure of him. AS some people like to call him "the game show fighter" is he for real or not is what I think most people are trying to gauge at this point. I think most people agree that Pemberton is shot, but what if it was just that Manfredo had improved that much?
He's got FREDDIE ROACH in that corner now......I think he is only getting better in both skills and power....he's getting more settled in his natural weight class.....
It feels good to be back home.

He has 1 TKo in the last 2 years recent being against Scott Pemberton The same Scott Pemberton that Lacy Hit him so Hard he knocked him out of his shoes... Pride I dont want to get into a pissing contest on this one but I think they would be feeding him to the wolves putting him in with Lacy right now..Believe me Birminghams got Lacy working on his Boxing and defense

    Manfredo 25 wins 11 ko's

    Calzaghe 41 wins 31 ko's

JC has a better KO % and I would say he is the bigger puncher one punch and accumalitive

    Truthfully,

I dont like the kid, he is to predictable and doesnt have what I feel is enough to hang with some of the heavy bangers out there...

He was good and all in the Contender, but you have to look at a few things..

He got beat by a very good offensive fighter, then lost in the final to a very good defensive fighter....

That does not show good for a future....

If he fights a guy like Lacy, Lacy would rip his head off....

Definately dont let this kid get schooled by Calzaghe...Lacy can be proof to that....

You want to see him in a good fight, put him in with someone like Alan Greene, if and that is IF Manfredo can beat Greene, he will do good....

I would get him about 3 maybe 4 more good confidence building fights with the training personell he has now, then maybe, I mean maybe, see what is out there for him then.....

    Good Luck,

    Coach

if he didn't learn anything from those fights then I would have to agree with you...but by getting Roach in his corner tells me that he is seious about improving on those weaknesses...and it was starting to show against pemberton.....I can't wait to see how he is now....Could be exciting.....

FROM HIS LOSS TO GOMEZ HE HAS COME A REDICULOSLY LONG WAY... 1. HE HAD TO LOSE WEIGHT FOR THE SHOW... AND KEEP IT DOWN... 2. WENT FROM 10 AND 12 ROUND BOUTS TO 5... 3. TOTAL PACE CHENGE. HAD TO FIGHT A DIFFERENT FIGHT... ALL THE REST OF THOSE $HIT BUMS WERE FIGHTING BOUTS BELOW 10 ROUNDS...THEY WERE USED TO IT. SINCE HE STARTD TRAINING WITH ROACH HIS BALANCE, STAMINA AND PUNCHING LOOK GREAT... LOOK @ THE FIRST MORA FIGHT AND THEN THE SECOND...DIFFERENT BOXER. HE WILL FIT WELL IN THIS DIV. HE HAS SHORTENED HIS PUNCHES AND IS VERY CALCULATED... NO ONE CAN TELL ME THAT ONCE HE GETS OUT FROM THIS ESPN FLAG HE WILL SIT ATOP THE DIV WITH ONE OF THE BELTS...

I think all the naysayers will be pleasantly surprised when he steps up... Coures I guess we'll have to wait and see...

The Spina fight didnt fall through Spina chickened out and took another fight cuz he got outboxed by the aging subpar brinkly and I think he realized his mouth would damage his padded record
yeah...and the fact that Manfredo is fighting at his natural weight is now discouraging other fighters.....He carried his pop and after the pemberton fight people are seeing him with open eyes now...I think the loss to Mora on the contender turned people off of him at the time....you would think the robbery from their second fight would force a 3rd but Mora wants nothing to do with Manfredo at 168....
Don't think Manfredo is interested in Mora any more... knows Mora isn't gonna do shit and he also knows that no one argues that he beat Mora last time...

Pretty sure I read an interveiw where he said Mora would be a waste of time for him.

I like him and fair play to him- the contender has given much needed exposure.

There were a lot of fundamental strengths and errors in his make-up during that programme, but they much improved by the time he fought Mora a 2nd time (which Manfredo clearly won).

Im eagerly waiting to see what the outcome of Freddie Roach's camp is as like i said, the kid had a little something about him.

Comparisons with Calzaghe aren't really needed as i believe they are at totally different stages in their respective careers right now.

Robin Reid is threatening a return to the ring - he's a hardy guy would give a younger guy a good test?

    What do you guys think?

I TOTALLY AGREE...  I HATE WHEN PEOPLE SAY CALZAGHE WILL RIP HIS HEAD OFF LIKE THEY ARE BOXING GURUS...  OF COURSE HE WOULD...  CALZAGE PUT ON ONE OF THE BEST OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE BOXING SPECTACLES I'VE EVER SEEN AGAINST LACY...  THEY ARE IN A SEPARATE CLASS.......FOR NOW.  CALZAGHE WILL RETIRE IN A FEW YEARS....  PETER AND OTHERS LIKE HIM ARE THE FUTURE OF THE TOP TIER OF THE DIV.  AND GREAT POINT.  REID WOULD BE A GREAT TEST FOR HIM TO SEE WHERE HE STANDS..  NOT JUST A STEPPING STONE BUT WOULD BE AN ENTERTAINING FIGHT ASWELL....    CC, BRO

Ok, you say Peter is the new wave....

So lets say he fights someone like Alan Green.....What then??

Noone has answered that question yet....

I think that the exscuses you gave for Peter losing the matches he had in the Contender kind of contradicts what he was when he went to the Contender show...

Are you saying that this was a reason for losing the matches that he lost If so, thats like saying a Marathon runner would suck at a 5k....C'mon, think about what you just wrote....

For a fighter at the level Peter is supposed to be at, jumping down to a 5 rounder should have been like a fast sparring session...Any fighter of mine that gets to 12 rounders that cant jump down to a 5 rounder and woop some a** needs to quit fighting...

I'll tell you this....I have read some crazy S*** on this site....But, this just topped the cake right here!!!

Last time I checked, they are both Super Middle Weight fighters, so no, they ARE in the same class and for Peter to get a belt, he would have to fight someone like Calzaghe....

Like I have said before, one of the best comming up in the division RIGHT NOW is Alan Green, I feel he will win the belts and hold them for a while...I dont see Peter getting a belt unless its another NABO title for Rhode Island Super Middle Weight Champion!!

And if he does, I will eat my words...

But, the kid just isnt that good....PERIOD!!

    Good Luck,

    Coach

Manfredo to take on lacy after beating pemberton would be a big mistake...
usually after a one sided fight, a trainer will pair his boxer up with someone who is similar in style with the guy he really wants to fight.
If manfredo goes at lacy on lacys comeback, its gonna be a long night..or maybe not so long lol
the addition of roach has definately helped peter out, gave him some confidence, i hope to see him do well,

    Oh yea, Pride of Providence.....
the fight with spina & Manfredo didnt go, because of money...not chickening out...believe me..
so spinas taking on some light opposition until the next fight with a contender.

i understand that you liked, then disliked, spina...but again, post the facts, not feelings...
