I've seen this guy once before on FSN or ESPN. He looked good in that vid. But his opponent looked hand picked. He didn't pressure him, was wide open for the kicks, never attempted to take the guy down. In my limited training when dealing with an opponent known for his kicks you should close the distance and take away the advantage. Cung kicks were very fast and accurate but I'd want to see how he dealt with a fighter putting more pressure on him and how he defended the takedown and fought from the ground.

For the record, I don't hate the guy. He does have immense talent in his sport. BUT, nobody does it and it makes him look so much better. The points he scores inflict NO PAIN WHATSOEVER!! I'm just saying, san shao (or however it's spelled) will prove absolutely useless against a formidable MMA opponent. Just like crap like kung fu, TKD, etc. Those arts are only effective again those who are also using them.

i've heard that cung's been working on his ground game
i read that in his 2nd MMA match, it was on the ground
they got back up and cung knocked the guy out
but yes, i'd like to see how well he does on the ground as well
lots of people are saying it looks like his opponents are handpicked
well what can you expect, the guy has only had 2 MMA matches himself
you can't expect him to fight the best
he's fighting people with the same amount of experience as him and he's making them look light years behind him.
at this rate, he could be great..... but once again
it will depend on how well his ground game is because we all know his stand up is amazing

I could be mistaken, but werent both his victories against kickboxers that he had already beaten in San Shou matches pretty handily? (I know his first definately was, not positive on the 2nd)

It's amazing how he (cung le) hasn't tried to use any of his san shao moves or takedowns in his two mma fights. It's like even he knows it's a useless fighting style in a real situation.

Von, thats intersting. By him not using his moves in MMA matches already shows an abilty to adapt to new rules and situations. That in itself is noteworthy. Specially since no other fighter could apprently adapt to San Sho rules. Also two wins in MMA by KO is an accomplishent in itself, Moreover coming from a sport that goes by a point system. And his kicks doing "no damage"..tell that to teh guys he KO'D

he's defo got talent for what he does, but we'll see how his "real fighting" skills are when he's put to a real test against a legit UFCer.

I'm not exactly familiar with weight classes but a good firt match for him might be a guy like Mike Swick or Robbie Lawler.

It'd be good for Robbie, too, cuz he's been doing pretty piss poor lately. Cung, while new to MMA, is a relatively well known name in the martial arts world because of his San Shou prowess.

Cung Le, on the other hand, is new enough to MMA that a loss to a relatively big name won't hurt his career much, while Robbie is a large enough name to lend some credibility to Cung Le, should Le win the fight.
