On the topic though, it sux that their are a lot of irresponsible morons at so many gyms that throw young inexperienced kids in with seasoned pro's & watch them get the crap beat out of them... It's one part of the sport i've never liked & never will.... Fortunately their ARE some people in SOME gyms that genuinly appreciate the great sport for all that it is & don't mind spreading that appreciating to whoever shows any interest.

No one is going to appreciate anything that leads to their head getting punched in for no good reason...
That stuff should be left for outside drunken bars @ 4am in the morning. Not in boxing gyms.

anyway, just my 2 cents.

And the original poster should go for it & certainly don't worry about the past.. Find a good gym & you'll love training & when you've got the skills you can get in the ring again with some purpose other than being used as a punching bag..
