the trouble with boxing gyms is that they're in short supply since the average idiot puts eastern martial arts above boxing, even though most are sht and utterly useless, karate and tkd dojos are everywhere.

Von I think the proliferation of eastern MA over boxing has to do with mothers. I wanted to attend a boxing gym when I was young but my mom wasn't having it. It wasn't till I was in my teens that I went and did it on my own. Most mothers don't like the idea of their sons getting punched, and prefer a more "friendly" contact sport. I do agree though karate/kung fu/TKD is next to worthless. My sister is looking to put my nephew in to a MA and I've counseled her to look into Akido/judo/BJJ so he can get a good balance of respect/discipline as well as learn a MA with some real world application.

good point. I think a lot of it is also about self esteem these days.
I would go for judo since it incorporates throws, standing submissions and the ground game. If I could do boxing AND judo, I would. But no time, no cash.
you drop your left when you pop the jab...bad habit...when you go to throw your left throw it...don't load up so much..think of it as a power jab instead of a power punch...the power will be there. Keep your elbows in!!!! if they come out think of your innocent exposed ribs!!!!! also I would get in the practice of holding your left hand upto or against your chin...this could help immensely...then you could throw all the jabs you want!!!! .....but promising nontheless....find a gym...the biggest thing in starting to fight is actually starting....you're on your way!!!! keep punching!!Originally Posted by Von Milash
