I have Ortiz slightly ahead of Gomez simply because Ortiz was able to redem himself and beat back all but 3 of 7 guys that beat him. I also think edge goes to Ortiz on opposition.Originally Posted by Violent Demise
Gomez fully dominated and held one belt at Super Bantam thought IMO he should have been DQ'd for hitting Zarate while he was on the canvas already. He fought well and good opposition much props to him for moving up in weight it just wasn't to be. All in all anyone can make a good arguement why one or the other is better I personally side with Ortiz.
I say Gomez, but I can see Ortiz's case. And don't really have a problem with him being called number 1Originally Posted by CutMeMicK

Cuz I seen more of his fights. A lot more. I seen about 3 of Ortiz's fights (he is a lot older fighter). I have a hard time finding his fights. If I see more, than I might change my mind. Till than, I say Gomez. His destruction of Carlos Zarate and battles with Lupe Pintor and Juan LaPorte were great. His losses to Azumah Nelson and Salvador Sanchez are nothing to be ashamed of.Originally Posted by CutMeMicK

winky wright used to be way under rated... he should have had the respect he has now years ago!!
as was the case for pernel whitaker when he was boxing...
the only person i can think of atm is ricado mayorga!!... to be fair he never lost a big fight in his own weight ...(including spinks!!)... and even though he had a bad image and a random slugger style.. he still got it dont... he just got offered bigger money at middle and light middle which.. one werent his wieght classes and two he was overmatched.. so they prob werent good choices but i do think he is underrated

Yall are STILL leaving out "The Upstate Onion Farmer" CARMEN BASILIO
I'm not his fan and I know a lot of people will land on me but I think Vivian Harris is underrated but mostly is his fault but he fits in this thread

I'd have to say:
Larry Holmes- possibly the best HW ever
Sonny Liston- never was liked or accepted, iced Floyd Patterson twice, was older than he claimed and didn't get a shot at the title till late, underestimated Ali the first time and threw the second one for sure, ended being murdered by the mob or it would appear that way at least.
Dwight Muhammed Qwai/Braxton-hell of a short pressure fighter who beat many good fighters and gave Holyfield a tougher time than Mike Tyson did
Jose Luis Castillo-Despite recently screwin everyone with the weight nonsense, he is every bit as much of a warrior as MAB or Morales, and should have handed PBF his first loss but got screwed, gotta be one of the greatest lightweights of all time.
If I think of more I'll add em.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
ezzard charles --sure as hell is underrated--a very dangerous fighter--very,very skillful as aswell
jimmy young is another 1
oh yea and OLD jersey joe---slick--and helluva puncher---"old" a word used 2 lure his pray into thinking hes a pushover.
i think that calzaghe is very underrated, but i also think thats gonna change soon
