    HOWEVER

    1. He has NO POWER
    2. Barrett fought trying to stay on the outside...Nicolay is 7 feet tall, he takes a step forward and nullifies you staying on the outside
    3. Barrett ROCKED him in the first....he hasn't fought any power punchers yet he has been rocked. Watch it again his knees buckled

My keys to victory vs Valuev
    1. Stay in "the pocket"
    2. Work the body
    3. Left hooks!
    4. Right cross over the jab

He's a DECENT fighter but I don't think even he thinks he's the best out there.....he does have a hot wife though...good for him

Sam Peter would have a GREAT fight vs him because he throws wild punches and those would reach him.

Wlad would pick him apart though...no doubt in my mind
I agree completely, especially regarding Peter & Wlad. I'd like to see either of those guys fight Valuev, and I don't think he'd stand a chance against either.

The man does have the biggest head I've ever seen in my life though--someone is definitely going to break his hand on that thing soon.

Here's the main thing that everyone is missing about Valuev...he's good for the sport.

I had two painters & a carpet installer come in to my work today talking about the fights this weekend.

The main reason that they watched was because of Valuev.

Also, for me, he came to the states & impressed...& honestly...I'm happy for the guy. He aint the greatest in the world...but in the end...plain & simple...he's good for the sport.

I don't like watching him fight at all, but he's pretty coordinated for his size, pretty decent skill for his size, good stamina, especially for his size, and seems to have a solid chin.

He doesn't seem to have great power, and how does a 7'3 guy fight small? He doesn't all the time but with how big he is it just seems WAY too easy to get in range. Part of that I think is that his feet aren't quick at all, which is understandable.

How old is he? 33 right? Seems like if you're that big you're body might break down quicker than other guys. Knee problems, back problems.

Just an FYI, I saw one EVANDER HOLYFIELD sitting right next to Don King.....prompting me to think, if Holyfield beats Fres Oquendo......he might just get a title shot vs Valuev.

Nicolay Valuev is only as good as his competition and right now it's decent but not the best...here's a list of the WBA top 10

    1. Ruiz
    2. Chagaev
    3. Brock
    4. Toney
    5. Austin
    6. Sultan
    7. Donald
    8. Briggs
    9. Williamson
    10. Barrett

Where the fuck is Wlad Klitschko on there Sam Peter is 11th! Hell Donnell Homes and Taras Bidenko are 14 and 15!!!!!

This is why Don King is BAD for boxing.

Honestly of the fights most likely to happen I can see Nicolay Valuev losing to: Oliver McCall, Alexandre Dimitrenko, or Chagaev providing he hits as hard as advertised.....JD Chapman would do good to get himself a shot too!

Lamon would be a good choice to beat Valuev...he can take a punch and deal one too but I only hope Buddy McGirt teaches him to jab but follow with power because he was totally different vs Golota than vs Sergei

    I think he's 12th

Buddy could. But will he? The problem is when you get a new trainer you want a new fight to test them out in. But Brewster went into a hard fight with a changed trainer and that was and is a mistake to do. You don't test how a trainer is in a huge fight of your life. Jermain taylor made that mistake when he fought Wright.

    HI!

I told you I would never write again if Val lost (or Maskaev) but Im still here because Val delivered a victory. When the Barrett team said that they would take it to Val I knew they would lose.

Val is not a killer -taking it to him makes his adrenaline flow and when he starts open up and throwing going for the KO, he always succeeds. The determining punch was a CRAZY big right. Kudos Barrett; you are a hero. For people to talk bad about Barrett - he is tough good fighter. Respect to him and to Val.

    a) I find it absurd how easy it is to be "a bum" according to you guys. None of the guys we write about are bums. They are people who have beaten almost all of their opponents. Barrett, Ruiz, Vidoz, Etienne, Beck and the rest of Val' s last fights are all good fighters AND they had EVERYTHING to win by defeating him. But they couldnt.

    b) If size were everything then Kevin McBride would win and win.....

    c) Look Val's body is both a blessing and curse; he needs to use the right strategy to win with it. And he does. He paces himself as a real pro. He leans. He -not so much against Barret- jabs. Look at one of the last shots; a very hard jab, and then an uppercut. Combo.

    d) Last nite wasn't the best. But its partly Barret's fault.

    e) It is obvious to me that he will get much better. He trying different stuff. Next time may be his best time out.

    f) Valuev is doing well fighting good opponents while avoiding Wlad, Sergei, Oleg... and who else? Yes the rational choice for Jan is Peter, or Toney. Toney vs Val would sell tkts like nuts; all the boxing fans + all the casual fans. And, Hey!, since Val cant fight and is a fraud only champion because he is white according to Tony and most of you guys, it would be an EASY win for Toney.
Val; good game plan. Could have jabbed more. More uppercuts.

    g) Power? There are diffefrent ways in which to be powerful. When you wrestle you know that a tall "farmer" bigbones and eating lots of meat, can be strong in that Lasting way that the bodybuilder looking type wrestler. Valuev is the most powerful HW ever. The prob w the punch power is that its a function of speed and thats what he doesnt have enough of. But power; 10/10.

You see as you go against I guy built like Val; your big muscles tire; but he always has his big frame.

Wlad KO'd Monte Barrett in 7 knocking him down 5 times....Valuev didn't show any power other than the accumulation of punches.

IMO Wlad would totally humiliate Nicolay at this point.

I will give Nicolay this he sticks with his gameplan.

I'm not calling him a bum but he hasn't pushed himself in finding decent competition. He's a good heavyweight but he's FAR from being the dominant force in the division

I think Valuev showed a decent chin, and decent power. He doesn't have ko power, but he hits hard enough for the tko's to come. It's really not fair though, he should have his own division. What other division can someone be outweighed by 100lbs? The commissions make a big deal out of 8 pounds. Many of us think that JLC had an advantage against Corrales cause he didn't sweat off 5 pounds. Throw PBF as a welter in against Mike Tyson in his prime and you are still just a little less than Barret was outweighed.

He's not a bum, but when you outweigh someone by 100lbs should it go 11 rounds? They were swinging for the fences in the 1st. I don't know. I don't have a problem with the guy, but he is supposed to win, and do it impressively. It was definitely unusual. Hats off to Barrett, he put on a good show too.

I disagree about Valuev being good for the sport. Non-fans will tune in to watch his fights for no reason other than that he's freakish. This isn't good for boxing; in fact, it makes a joke out of the sport. The guy is very big and very unimpressive in the skills department--and that fight was horrendously boring to watch, boxing-wise (freakshow-wise is another story). I personally ended up watching rounds 4-7 in fast-forward.

Honestly, the guy seems very likeable, but that's neither here nor there. He will get destroyed the first time he fights someone good. From what nearly every commentator who was on hand for the Ruiz fight says, he already lost that fight to Ruiz (and was responsible for 80% of the clinching--against RUIZ!!).

Would it be "good for boxing" to have a not-very-good-at-boxing albino, or midget, or grizzly bear get in the ring with mediocre heavyweights? (My guess is your painters and carpet installer would watch)
