I have been watching boxing since 1986 and these are the Puerto Rican fighters I have taken liking to not neccesarily the best even though Trinidad is the Islands best fighter in my opinion, Camancho ended up being a semibust but had his good times. The sky is the limit for Cotto even though I don't see him becoming as big as Trinidad once was, but he should have a productive career.
Trinidad is the most widely overrated boxer in the history of the sport. Hes been exposed multiple times in his supposed prime, yet he has a massive fanbase. Its not that he has fans thats distubing its that the fans think hes the greatest boxer, which is rather sad.

Your a bloody asshole new comer. Everybody is entitled to like whoever the hell they want to like without a bloody idiot like you coming along and being a jerk, join another boxing forum please. Trinidad has a resume like this.

16 WW title defenses (WW record)
a champion in three different weight classes
    beat 3 gold medal winners
won mega fights vs many undefeated champins (De La Hoya, Ried, Vargas, etc)
cleaned out 154 in three fights
Had a brutal KO at 160 against Joppy despite being undersized
Has only lost two fights in his career

The only time he lost was 2 fights at a weight he had no excuse being at, due us all a favor and go hang yourself.
Dude don't jump on him for having an opinion different then yours.

    anyway that said.

I think that Benitez is greater then Trinidad.

But Trinidad is definately top 3.
This comment was directed at me for having Trinidad as my #1 Puerto Rican fighter, so since I defend myself I am jumping on him, that bloody bullshit.
Yo Brazilian Bomber, I am on your side on this one. I just think you got angry at what he said as opposed to the fact that it hurt you for someone to say something about a favorite boxer of yours. Hous was entitled to his opinion about Trinidad, but the problem with his opinion is that it was not based on FACT. Opinions based on fact are more valid than those that aren't. So, what was Hous basing his opinion on? Perhaps he has something against Ricans or Trinidad's popularity. But why wouldn't Trinidad be popular? The man bought excitement into the ring and ducked NO ONE!! Brazil, you did a good job supporting your point with FACTS.

Thats really mature of you to say I have something against Puerto Ricans, real classy brother. If I had something against Ricans I wouldnt give props to other Puerto Ricans logically now would I?

Who are the three biggest names on Trinidads record? Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, and Winky Wright. Those are all great boxers and they destroyed Trinidad like no champion should be beat. But he is given all of the credit in the world when he beats Joppy, Vargas and a 40 year old Whittaker? Give me a break. I give him credit for beating Joppy, Vargas, and Yori Boy, but thats not Hall of Fame material. Im sorry if im being brutally honest here.

Trinidad is one of the most entertaining boxers ever, but not one of the best. Personally entertainment value is more important to skill anyways.

Maybe you should just let it go, Trinidad fans can think whatever we want to think, if we think he is the best than that's what we are going with, we don't need someone to tell us it's sad that we have that opinion and that we are wrong for thinking that, story over just leave us alone please.

I would have to say Wilfred Benitez is better than Trinidad. And whoever mentioned Camacho, that is a joke. Hector blew his chance for being in the top 10 Puerto Rican fighters. He fights stiffs or old guys. My pick is Wilfred Benitez as beat Puerto Rican champion. The guys fought Cervantes,Leonard,Duran,Hearns. 4 Hall of famers. Tito fought two hall of famers. Delahoya and Hopkins. Hope no one thinks Vargas is a hall of famers.

nope but he had the tools to be one before the Trinidad fight, Vargas was only 22 yrs old when he took on Tito, only 20 bouts and was relatively inexperienced in big fights, if he would have taken on Trinidad later on in his career instead of being rushed into the fight, he could have very well won the fight

Give Vargas credit for that fight though. I thought he was doomed from round 1, but he got up, fought like a champ for the rest of the fight. Alright he didnt win, but you gotta give him credit for that heart.
