Ricardo Lopez, contrary to common thought, is actually very well known among the Mexican community. I've seen him fight too. JMM fights just like him, no surprise either, if you know the behind the scenes. wink-wink

He has the skills to be a first ballot hall of famer, but he doesn't have the resume of a first ballot.

Alvarez is his biggest fight, and that kid had what? 20 fights coming into the ring with Finito.

Carbajal, THATS a name. Going up against a bigger man, THATS an accomplishment. And it's accomplishments, not an "O" that makes 1st Ballot Hall of Famers.

Ricardo Lopez is one of the greatest fighters I ever saw. His weight never mattered to me

    Oh! HELL NO!!!
I'm sorry BUT not even the very skilled JMM was near the skill level of Lopez. Not sure how much you've seen Lopez but JMM, no...
The only other fighters that come to mind is Pernell without the squatting style/legs apart OR 'Iron Boy' Calderon but with more crack! in his punches.
(No pun intended, with the usage of Pernell & the word crack in the same sentence :P )

I see where your coming from, but as I said he fought the toughest people around at that time. In the Minimumweight class, I'll tell you what this is the best way to see what was going on back then go to Lopez record and trace back the belts he won, meaning who he won them from and who THEY won them from look at the people see if you recognize someone and look at their records... You will see that at that time the people he fought were the best around. He challenged for titles, he moved up in weight.

And I have said this many times before and I'll say it again the second they let Barry McGuigan in the BHOF they have just about let everybody in. IMO

Hall of Fame credentials, yes. 1st Ballot? Helll no! You gotta be kidding me.

An "O" with no real bad*ss fighter on his resume. haha

Doesn't impress me. Just another man who displays skills... and there are plenty of them.

A real 1st Ballot goes balls out and risks his "O" with BIG fights... and almost all the time, it doesn't look pretty, because your actually fighting someone worth fighting for.
I disagree. It's not right to punish somebody by history. Like Bert Sugar said. People have the wrong idea of what makes a fighter great and punishes them by history. Just because you don't see an all time great on his list doesn't mean he fougth everyone that those weight classes had to offer. And if you dominate an entire division for over 10 years then it doesn't matter if you have that one GREAT fight.. just because nobody came along to truly challenge you doesn't make you any less great.

So don't punish a fighter by history. You can if you can name 5 great fighters he should have fought and didn't.

It's a well deserved position it's not him being overrated or anything like that he was just the best in his weight class and there was no 1 who could beat him simple as that

    Who wins a Lopez-Carbajal fight?

Carbajal would have been dangerous but personally I'd have favored Ricardo.
