No way he deserves that, if they were to fight for a title at light heavy then ok maybe give B Hop the bigger split but at super middle where the fight would most likely happen Calzaghe is the champion and Hopkins the challenger and thats how they'd have to be paid.
Hatton got paid more than the champ Tszyu (and the titleholder Collazo). Mayweather got paid way more than the champ Baldomir. ODH gets paid way more than every champ he faces.

The fact is that Bernard is the MUCH bigger PPV draw in the U.S., which is where the PPV dollars are. Not because he was the one selling seats against ODH and Trinidad, but because people here have actually heard of him (unlike Calzaghe), in no small part because he's actually fought big fights against big names like . . . ODH and Trinidad. Which are obviously fights in another league from fighting some hyped-up rookie like . . . .
Hatton did get more than Collazo but he did not get more than Tszyu. There was no way Tszyu would agree to fight in Hatton's home turf and get the lesser purse. Tszyu got paid a good amount more than Hatton.
whatever, you get my point. being champion doesn't necessarily equal getting the bigger side of the purse.

Yeah , not much point in debating cuz we know its never guna happen . I'd like to see Bernard stop fluttering round with different ideas and focus all his energies on a potential 1 off fight against Maskaev . He deserves it after such a wonderful career .

I wouldnt be against a rematch with Jones either but again we know that aint happening . Toney would need to hold a title at heavyweight for that 1 to be feesable . Kessler isnt a big enough name in the States yet. Nard needs to get serious cuz he hasnt got too much time left .

I still maintain that I'd rather see this than see B Hop v ANY HW. This fight would be awesome and hey,I hope JC keeps winning so he breaks gets closer to B Hop#s record then we will see if both guys mean what they say. I think at this stage in their careers,, JC's activity level is way way way too hot for B Hop and the way B Hop has fought his fights against Tarver was no way good enough to beat JC. I'm just asking guys who think B Hop will win, how so? Just wondering because I don't see it...

Dispite me just saying there was no point discussing it , i'm going back on my word now cuz I cant resist

Even though Bernards a top quality fighter who usually finds a way to win , like you , I just cant see how he'd do it against Joe . His legacy is cemented and although he will go down in history higher than Joe , in the ring he wouldnt be able to master him IMO and thats not only cuz of his age but cuz of Joes pace . Even in B-hops prime he'd struggle against someone as big as Joe whos heavy handed and so quick and who also sets a ferocious pace .

It would be interesting to see what tactics B -Hop should adopt if he fought Joe . He's not the type to look for a K.O so he'd need a 12 round strategy so that would be interesting .

Hopkins already said on btalk that he'd only fight again if his sisters allowed him which isn't going to happen.

how he fought with Bika doesn't worry me one bit tbh. I think after 2 rounds bika basicaly decided he would go for 12 rounds and lose rather than even attempt to win it. As you know this ice, Joe picks his game up when he fights people with hype, or are regarded good, when he is fighting fighters he doesn't need, or want to be fighting he gets frustrated, trys to showboat a bit or just losses his consentration. with hopkins he wil bring his A game coz its a fight he has wanted for half a decade.

Pretty much every fighter with a big rep, former champ, highly thought of who got in the ring with Joe got a sound beating.

Robin reid was a pretty good boxer when he got in the ring with joe, were a fair few hopes on him, but he was on his way to a fairly onesided loss untill Joe broke his hand in the 6(? i think..)

Veit was 30-0 very highly regarded and hyped by most of europe, didn't make it out of the first round.

Brewer is prolly the only real name on joes resume where joe messed up and done so many things wrong, but to brewers credit he was a very durable fighter.

Byron Mitchell, getting on his years when he met joe, but should of been the WBA and IBF champ if he wasnt screwed over in germany only 3 months before got batterd in 2 rounds.

Jeff lacy, well thats still fresh in everyones mind, don't need to say what happend there

I am aware how hopkins is a class or 2 above all these guys, just pointing out how Joe raises his game when its needed.

One other point i would like to add is how Joe never fights with fear. Guys like eubank, Mitchell, veit and lacy wee coming in as highly thought of fighters, each had their own quality, big puncher, good chin, good jb etc, but in each fight joe showed no fear, no respect and went staight at them, stopping them all settling and controlling the fight they way he wanted. With no dissrespect to hopkins, but alot of people who got in the ring with him let him fight the fight he wanted. Hopkins liked to start very slow, take the first 4 rounds to 'feel them out' do verry little. most fighter let him do that, were intemedated by his rep and what he done. It would be interesting to see how hopkins would handle.train for someone who frist the first bell will try and make him fight everysecond of everyround.

Boxing rule number 1: don't fight over 40 year old, washed up, former champs. You lose even if you win.

agreed i remember when holyfield fought larry holmes and foreman and because he struggled against them because they were 40+ he got alot of stick and then they were saying he is fighting stiffs bums and old men so i think its best for joe to not fight hopkins

Hopkins is already an expert at that.

Even if they gave him what he wanted he'd try and double it at the last minute.

He knows Joe is to good for him.

you are insane. hopkins would kick the S*** out of calzaghe. Bhop is the one fighter who is not thrown off at all by a southpaw. i hope it happens, be a cool fight.
Agreed. CC. I have no doubt Bernard is better and would land a higher percentage of good shots. But he's in trouble if the judges are scoring pure activity, because joe does throw a lot of (slap) punches.
Yeah, because it was all those slaps that left Jeff Lacy's face like it was a steak that had been tenderised with a baseball bat. Despite schooling a very sluggish Antonio Tarver, who looked like he'd rather be at a Hollywood afterparty. B Hop didn't show the old sharpness IMO, though he showed he's still the master at pick and run. Anyhow, glad to see the post forty- Bhop wants some live opposition and not the old man of russian boxing Oleg Maskaev. It'll be a decent fight if it happens, with Calzaghe grabbing a wide UD for me.

I know, he definitely slapped Lacy quite a bit. I don't care enough about this to really get into it, but it's a little silly for you to degrade Hopkins' win over the linear champion of a division two above the one Hopkins fought in for the past decade by saying Tarver looked sluggish while praising Calzaghe's win over a much more "sluggish" (and never proven in the first place) Jeff Lacy. Look, Calzaghe might be able to beat (the 41-year-old-version-of) Hopkins, but I'd need to see it happen first. The fact is that Calzaghe's never fought anyone of remotely that level before, so we really have no idea how he'd perform. It would be a huge step up for him.

i promised not to underestimate nard again since he proved me wrong agaisnt Tito and Milkdud head(Tarver) but i really dotn think his got a chance agaisnt the speed of Calzaghe. Nard will prob go the whole 12rd but Calzaghe will just outwork him.
