    No NOT at all
but if your fighting for a contender position and you lose twice, the second time clearly,. YOUR OUT!

I really think that james looked worse than in the first fight and really blew any pretext he had of representing himself as a top heavyweight, never mind a legit contender.

    RE the Peter Toney fight:

The Toney/Peter II was the best and worst thing that could have happened to each fighter.

Peter improved Tremendously! Showed a great desire and work ethic in his training, even missing going home for Christmas to train. Erased the controversy of the first fight.
Made EVERYONE fall in love with him by his gracious and humble comments post fight. Showed that he is the best guy to take on the rest of the Heavyweight divison. Came in leaner, increased his punch output, showcased his skills and won the hearts of millions.

Point by point. James Toney did exactly the opposite!

Peter really improved. Erased the dispute about the first fight.
Came in better shape. Toney didn't do himself any favors here at all and the post fight yapping made it worse.
To quote Al bernstein "Peter is on the cuz of becomeing a really complete fighter which many people felt previously was not possible"
    and
"Peter showed the world that he is better for the HW division than James Toney"

    I fully agree.

    IS that clear enough?

At the same time shouldn't Toney not be out of the Heavyweight picture just because he lost to Peter?

the ruiz match was ruled a No contest not a dq. *pictures chris byrd putting up his best efforts and being absolutely demolished by a prime ali* Toney should've won the first peter fight and peter should've been dq'd in the 2nd round of the rematch. I watched the rahman fight and i guess it was a legit draw but i had toney ahead slightly.

I actually agree with your view on those three fights. But I'm pissed off at Toney right now!
He should get down to 190 and show that he wants to train to win and mop up at cruiser, mind you,,,he's got Byrd to contend with down there! That would be a good fight!

James Toney can beat Valuev IMO...

Ive watched the second Toney: Peter fight a few times now, and I dont think Toney took a beating as some have claimed. He lost the fight because he was outworked by a much younger, stronger fighter. Many of those rounds were extremely close though, and the fight was ultimately sealed with the nature of the first 2 rounds.

There is no way Valuev stops Toney.

Toney didn't win a round from 5 on.
If he was outworked by a bigger stronger Peter He'd be clubbed out by a MUCH bigger stronger Valuev who has a MUCH higher punch output.
If Toney's odd punch that landed couldn't hurt Peter,Valuev might not even notice that Toney had landed.
Toney's only chance of winning is if Valuev is distraced by a female Sasquatch during the bout

Valuev is stronger than Peter in what sense? Larger, yes, and heavier but I sure dont think he is as skilled as Peter has become nor does he possess Peters KO power....

Peter's extra flurries towards the end of each round edged a number of what had been very close rounds. Toney may have been outworked but he did land his fair share, they just didnt have the impact that Peters punches could have.

Still no excuses from me, Peter won that fight.
