Well look at it right now...the MLS is where old players go to end their careers and where US youngsters get good enough to go to Europe.
So therefore we have old farts and young guys looking to move to Europe....how is that helping the MLS in the long run
I understand your point Jim and I am agreeing with you, but you have to admit that it's not really going to help MLS or soccer in the US.
The way to help soccer in the US is to cultivate talent and then ship them to Europe and SHOW THE GAMES ON TV especially the ones that showcase our talent. For the MLS to be big you need a figurehead and that was dropped in their laps when a kid named FREDDY ADU signed on with DC at age 14!!!! Now he's in the no man's land of SALT LAKE CITY....he needs to be the face of the league (along with Becks) and needs to be a New York Red Bull (to make a rivalry with LA)!
I think that Beckhams arrival will help because it's gonna raise the profile of "Soccer"in the US thus kids will idolise him and wanna start playing.
Only a matter of years until FOOTBALL is your biggest national sport.
Your no different to any other country at the end of the day so imo it is inevitable![]()
...Football is our biggest national sport....which is why SOCCER is having such a hard time gaining ground![]()
Your game really is not "football". The foot touch element is really very minimal. It should be called "handball".Originally Posted by Lyle

Good points, Soccer is a huge industry though... Various tactics need to be used.Originally Posted by Lyle
TV needs to have a reason to screen matches,
(WAFFLE)*Lets not forget that football is in a market of other sports. I believe that I am right in saying most nations that exhibit a national soccer team, has soccer as its No.1 Sport. So we can see Americas problem. (Samson’s post earlier was a key example of the disinterest in Soccer in the U.S)*
Hence marketing is a must.
So since 'Brand Beckham' is, at the moment, the biggest and best selling soccer brand in the whole of the U.S, id figure it would be wise for TV Networks to invest some extra air-play in Brand Beckham and his affiliates.
This in turn, will be the proverbial Foot in the door in regards to exposure, revenue and growth. The market swells and gains power and so on and so on.
The MLS from grass-roots to top-level is healthy. Mick gets his Real Madrid shirts cheaper. The Stars & Stripes will have a better National team than The Three Lions, and we'll all have David Beckham to blame.

Oh if those NFL players did ANYTHING else they'd fucking dominate.....might I refer you to one Julius Peppers 6'8 285 pounds runs a 4.3-4.5 40 yard dash and can dunk a basketball....he's just bad as all hell and if he played soccer or rugby or rowed a fucking boat down the Thames he'd be the best at it!!!!
Lyle how big is soccer in the States
Pain lasts a only a minute, but the memory will last forever....
boxingbournemouth - Cornelius Carrs private boxing tuition and personal fitness training
Soccer would be a lot better if it was hockey.
Now now. Lyle - it's not like to to make a statement based on one-eyed national patriotismOriginally Posted by Lyle
This seems to be a common misconception in the States, that size is everything. Playing football - soccer - actually requires some skill and stamina, and being as big as this guy does not mean he can kick a ball properyl or be agile enough to actually turn a corner.
I have a Corvette, and it is big and powerful in a straight line, but it does not like going around corners. Very American (!)
I am the first to admit I know very little about American Football, but it looks like anaerobic stamina is not needed as there are so many breaks in the game. Plus it is power and bulk that help at the 'Downs' rather than lots if skill
Also, and I'll try and break this gently, most international sports (as opposed to American football, baseball and basketball) actually have rules against taking performance enhancing drugs and bulkup steroids.
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
Sorry, but you don't seem to know the full story. Soccer is very big here in America upon youths, as many kids play soccer all throughout highschool. The problem is we as Americans can't stand WATCHING it, hence, no league can ever succeed here. Just as baseball and football will never be anything over there, soccer will never be anything over here.Originally Posted by Smashup

That's right Mick .....I also can't stand the double standard just because NFL players are big then they ALL do roids....that's simply not true.
Cycling is an international sport and like 90% of those guys use drugs but ONLY THE AMERICANS GET SHIT FOR IT....no one talks about the other guys who dope...why is that? They don't win!
Landis got caught.....but Lance Armstrong never failed a test so let's excuse him from this little chat people just didn't like him because he won all the time.
Soccer would be bigger if we didn't have other sports that draw in more money....I would personally rather watch MLS or especially the Premier League instead of NBA....I can't take that bullshit anymore
just an FYI the NFL and MLB have steroid and amphetimine testing now they need HGH testing but with all of the player unions it's going to be difficult to pass....don't act like your athletes don't use drugs that problem is not just an American one it's worldwide
