well no hitler is not a hero, but to some crazy fockers out there he is. Ali stood firm in his believe to fight what he saw as injustice, a noble belief, not in some crazy belief that he's the ubermensch and that he needs to burn about 6 million "untermenschen" which is what hitler believed and did. It's all relative though, if hitler's germany had won jeah he might well be hailed as a hero today cause we'd all get our asses indoctrinated with nazi propaganda from grade 1 and on.

Landmine, that's the biggest load of shit I have EVER read. You're damn right you got sad clicked, and you'll get another in 24 hrs.

Saddo gave a decent reply, but there is so much crap in your statements it would take all day to make an elaborate reply to all your claims. Even then it wouldn't be worth it since I can see from your post that you yourself have the mental ability of a cooked turnip.

Im all for opinions being expressed on this board, and you have a right to dislike Ali. But to make statements such as 'simple minded' about Ali and present them as fact with some pathetic excuse such as a failed military test to back up your claim is just plain prejudice.

I never understood why people thought he was a hero for ducking the war.

OK, he was a Muslim, the war was against his religion and his principles, and he chose not to go. FINE.

But to compare him to people like Ghandi and Martin Luther King? Ghandi and King fought to better situations for others, they had a collective group of people in mind. King basically said "I'm going to break this law because it is an unjust law. I'm not going to hide it, I'm going to do it in the open and I'll take whatever consequences that follow." When Muhammad Ali knew he wasn't involved because of a test which IMO he intentionally failed, he didn't give two shits about the war. Christians, Jews, and even other Muslims were being forced to fight but yet he never said anything about it. But suddenly he gets reclassified and suddenly its "why me??" Now that he has been forced into the situation and he is one of the victims, NOW suddenly he cares. So he plays the race card and tries to save his own ass. Its easy to be a hero when you are fighting to save your own ass, the real heros (like Ghandi and King) fought even when it wasn't their asses on the line.

Don't get me wrong, he chose not to go to war and paid the price, I just don't see why he should be commended for it. He tried to save his own ass just like anyone else would have done, only he had more power and influence than the average draftdodging Joe.

no..he was a draft dodger...plain and simple.....Above all of these things...he's not muslim, christian, catholic, lutheran, pentacostal, etc....He was/is American!!!!!!!! and if you want to have all the rights and freedoms this country offers then when it comes time for you to due your part YOU DO IT!! And if you then choose to deny your country when it asks for your help then you deserve to go to jail and anything else that goes with it.. That is the bottom line.

thats a little harsh, where is true freedom when you are being force to do something you don't want no part of. and worst your taken to jail, which is basically taking your freedom anyways. nowadays are better theres no draft, we don't need it, volunteers are good enough. but in another point of view maybe a draft was neccesary back then. i'm just glad i'm in this generation not the past.

Yes do your duty when you believe in it, like world war 2 was actualy about freedom and shit! Vietnam war is looked upon as a shame today by many and as a place that the us should have never gotten involved in, what good came of it In my mind there are certain wars that have to be fought and are right, but some are just wrong, and to me vietnam falls into the later category. So call him a draft dodger, he's got a clear conscious, he stood by his believes, and I can only hope I'd have the same moral fabric he did/does.

i always thought ali was a good man, but i didn't like the muslim group he got involved with i never trusted them and i'm sure within themselves nobody trusted one another. they are dangerous and racist themselves, but ali was different from them, ali was just manipulated and influences.

cassius clay as a christian or mohammed ali as a muslim, either one he choose to be he was a great persona and a legendary boxer.
