You know you're a Hatton fan when you say his last fights with Collazo and Urango were exciting.
I'm a Mayweather fan so I could watch him dance around a guy like baldomir all night and appreciate it.
I'm not a big Hatton fan so the punching and clinching of his latest fights bores the fugg out of me.
I've only seen about a dozen or so Hatton fights and I gotta say the KT fight was worth the download PPV buy. But the rest of them haven't been all that exciting (To a non-Ricky fan).
I'm not saying he's living his whole career off that one fight but it seems like if you throw him in against anyone with decent speed you know what's gonna hapen. It'll be a "win today, look good the next time" fight. He looks great beating on slower fighters. Not exactly exciting stuff to a non-Ricky fan. But then again, Floyd looks great beating on slower fighters too and I love every minute of it.
The only difference (well there are plenty of other differences but you know what I mean) is that Floyd makes everyone look slow.
I'm a Hatton fan because he is an exciting fighter. Granted he did clinch a lot versus Urango (going off what I have heard not seen) but he is usually an exciting fighter. The Collazo fight was very back and forth and Hatton wouldn't stop coming forward. He was out on his feet in the 12th and it was a struggle to the finish. That was exciting. Now the middle rounds did bore a tidbit because it was getting repetitive. But still a good fight on the whole. I'm not nominating it for FOTY but it was good.

And I really don't understand how you can say the Zoo fight wasn't exciting.

Hatton vs Thaxton is one of the most exciting fights I've ever seen. I actually know what your talking about when you say they don't seem exciting, it's more when you watch them live because, you don't know what's gonna happen because Hatton barely keeps his hands up, is always throwing a lot of punches, and permanently dishing out punishment, apart from the Urango and Vilches fights, they've all been very exciting.

That was one of my favorite fights of all time... nothing more satisfying then watching Judah get his ass handed to him, after all that making fun of Tszyu's style.. Zab calling him super slow and Frankenstein, showing no respect at all, just look at the speed of the tszyu right hand ! brilliant ! .. I just fucking loved that shit there. Judah was undefeated at that time. Tszyu is the one that short circuited Judah's career. Kostya is a very likeable fellow , good character in and out of the ring !

CC 342. The live point was very good. Watching a fight for the first time in which you know the result is never as exciting as it is in hindsight. You see Hatton won and your looking for him to do something special. But the Tszyu fight had my blood pumping like few other ever have. Electric atmosphere and you had two HURT fighters battling it out to the end. It was a great battle and one of the most underrated fights this decade.

Hatton was extemely exciting when he'd open up, from say '98 through '01, the way he'd step off to load up his bodyshots and combo's, the way he'd switch from left hand to right hand, switch from head to body, switch angles, double up, triple up. He was probably the most exciting fighter ever, watching him live on Sky. It was awesome!

But then the hip problems began (that's why he started weight-training), which meant he couldn't side-step like he used to or get the leverages like he used to. But he gritted his teeth through the pain barriers to bring back the old Ricky Hatton for the Stewart fight, pissed off that he'd given his loyal fans a couple of stinkfests, and was determined to make up for it. Man, I got a boner watching him on the pads in the locker room before the Stewart fight, and I didn't just cum during the fight - I had multiple orgasms. Don't tell me you atleast didn't get a boner, watching that live?

You are 100% spot on amat. I was at my mates that night and even his wife who has never liked boxing was shouting and screaming like a right nutter. It was a fight that did boxing proud. I still tingle when I watch the fight.

Hattons last three fights have been quite shit......thats coming from a Hatton fan. You have not seen many of Ricks fights before the Kostya fight have you? If so, tell me which ones you were dissapointed in.

Just to clarify, I said the Hatton - KT fight WAS worth the ppv buy. That means I liked that fight.
But the dozen other fights I've seen haven't lived up to the Hatton I read so much about from his fans.
Maybe I magically happened to tune in to the only dozen or so less-than-exciting fights in his career. Damn my luck.
It just seems that he's really good at beating up garbage but whenever he's in with anyone who shows a little speed it's problem time.
I'm not a Hatton hater. I continue to watch all his fights from here on and I don't think he's a boring fighter at all. I was just saying compared to how big his fans hype him up to be he doesn't live up to it in my books.
Take away the fan hype and he's a pretty good fighter to watch.

    I think it's only natural.
People (me included) wanted him to do so well. to really make a splash!
He's the style of fighter people would love to love!
It was a big dissapointment to say the least. And now he's suffering the backlash. Hopefully he can get back to the form and style that made him so popular in the UK, I for one hope that he can. This next fight is huge for him. I think maybe a tune-up fight to show who he really is would have done him a lot of good! And brought a bigger fan base on board. Another poor showing ,even if it results in a win, will be very hard to overcome.

The Tackie fight wasn't all-out warfare, it was just Ricky boxing his head off without being touched.

And the Tackie fight was the first time I ever saw Hatton clinch.

I ahvn't seen a great deal to be honest. I've got his Hitman dvd and seen all of his highlights and honestly he just doesn't really do a lot for me.

I think Yoitsdan made a great point about watching fights in hindsight not being nearly as entertaining as watching them live.

I just don't really appreciate the guy I guess. He's one of those busy fighters whose style sounds exciting when you read the compubox numbers but when watching him he just bores me.

I feel exactly the same way about Kasim Ouma as well, non stop punches but repetative as hell, Hatton is kind of like that to me.

I probably would have loved the Kosta fight had I seen it live. I was at a girlfriends house the night it happened and listened to it on the radio which was awesome, but then bought the Hitman dvd to watch the fight and I already knowing the result it didn't really do a lot for me.

I agree with the earlier poster who said that it really depends on the style of fighter you like and like him I'm a big Mayweather fan.

I actually enjoyed watching him beat Baldimor and I guess loads of people felt that was utter shat so different strokes for different folks I guess.

I still think the Hatton Castillo fight will be an ugly wrestling match for 12 rounds though.

Mayweather vs Baldomir was one of the most dominant 12 round displays i've ever seen, very watchable and so much talent on display but still, not even close to a Hatton fight for me, like you say different strokes.

I honestly can't see anything other than a pure slug fest with both guys staying in the pocket, Hatton moves as close to the fighter as he can and clinches only when they try to pull back to mid-outside range or is in a place where he can't throw. With Castillo, and vice versa, they'll just stand there and tee off I hope. I'm crossing everything that thats how it turns out because on paper it looks more exciting than Nigel Benn v Iran Barkley.
