Watson was very average until the second Eubank fight, where he was leagues above anything we'd seen from him before.

Come on, all he had to do against Benn was tuck up. Nige was thee headless chicken against Logan and Watson.

Watson looked very stiff and one-paced against McCallum and really not difficult to pick off.

And Watson looked awful in the first Eubank fight when Eubank was there for the taking having lost 19lbs in four days and passed out the day before.

It wasn't until he started weight-training with Jimmy Tibbs to get his punches off sharper and harder, trained with the Arsenal football team to send his fitness into overdrive and used hypnosis techniques to get over the McCallum pounding that he looked like a world-beater - on that tragic night.

He wouldn't give Chris a moments rest on that tragic night, he'd slip, he'd throw a right hook, he'd follow it up with another right hook in the same place, he'd switch and throw a left hook to the body, then a left hook to the head, then stay on top of him and go again - just pressuring, slipping, hooking, switching, pressuring, slipping, hooking, switching, pressuring, slipping, hooking, switching, non-stop, alnight. And everything Eubank hit Michael with, nothing, he kept on coming. But those hard arm punches would of been blocked by Winky Wright, and Wright would timed him with straighter punches. That style that night was devised specifically for Eubank, who pulled away or fell forward and didn't hold his hands up and needed those breaks he liked to pinch.


Watson only ever even looked world-class in the Benn fight and second Eubank fight, and it was only because he took advantage of each of their erratic flaws. Benn commiting himself first with no thought, hitting arms, gloves and elbows, leaving himself open for counters after swings had slammed the guard. And Eubank only ever able to fight in spurts.

Watson got over-rated on the Benn fight. He really did. Yes he appeared cool and precise, but Nige helped him appear cool and precise with the maniacal way he was fighting

yea but he also had to take alot of power shots from benn which would of koed most people before benn fight he watched foreman vs ali and see that tactic and used it against benn watson defended excellent against benn and also like i said had to take alot of mean shots from benn which would of koed most

This is impossible to call anyway because imo Watson was getting better with every fight in his last few fights so who knows.
Sadly i feel we never saw the best of Watson at all and i feel he had loads more to give us.

Oh, come on. If Benn just stuck a jab between those cupped gloves to set things up, he'd have taken Watson out. If he switched his attack to the body, he'd have taken Watson out. If he gave method to his madness, he'd have taken Watson out. If he gave thought before commitment, he'd have taken Watson out.

Not even Watson's own camp really gave him much chance against Benn beforehand.


If Watson fought Eubank like he fought him in the second fight, he may of had his number 9 times in 10. But then, I don't know, maybe Eubank would have got his jab working from the start and not under-estimated him if they fought a third time. Eubank thought Watson was "merely average" before their first fight, and thought he was absolute garbage after the first fight, really didn't rate him at all. He was shocked at Watson's pace and power at White Hart Lane, you could see the suprise in his eyes.

Why didn't he do these things and how do you know that Watson wouldn't have been able to respond?

We all know how much you love Eubank and Benn but Watson deserves a lot more credit than you are giving him.

What do you mean 'how much I love Eubank and Benn'? I love them no more than the next guy, but that's nothing to do with this.

I'm just stating what I saw and what I know. I'm sorry if the truth hurts.. but footage doesn't lie. I give Watson all the credit in the world for his performance in the second Eubank fight, it was pretty damn elite.
