What does Floyd have to do to change your mind?

Here's my take. Mayweather is a great fighter but he's his own worst enemy. When you walk around telling everyone your the best ever, you need to be able to prove it with who you've beaten. He just doesn't have that impressive group of wins that the legendary fighters have. He is a great fighter, but his problem is his egos so big being one of the best is not good enough for him. He is great, but not the best ever, not even top 5. And he probably wont be top 20 after May 5th. If he beats Oscar, then Cotto and maybe another top opponent like Shane Mosley, then he will be in my list for the best ever, until then, I just wish he'd let his fights speak for themselves. Oh, and he should have at least one loss to Castillo.

Who should he fought on his way up? Margarito? Hatton?

I agree with this statement completely.
Right now, I'd rank Floyd somewhere in the Top 50 or so all-time, and he needs several big wins to get up into the Top 15/20 or so.

In my opinion public opinion is swayed more by the HOW than by the WHO
Tyson's huge Ko string to start his career is a great example!
It generated HUGE public interest in people who probably couldn't even NAME ONE guy he KO'd!

Ya, the huge string of KOs led to him becoming one of the most overrated fighters in the history of the sport, and got people to ignore his flaws that would ultimately lead to his undoing against greater fighters such as Holyfield.
KO's didn't make Tyson a better fighter, just made him appear greater to casual boxing fans.

I don't need to see Floyd knock people out to prove to me he is a great fighter...that is obviously not his style. As it stands right now, he is an exceptionally talented fighter who as of yet has no where near the resume to be called an all time great. Oscar is certainly a good start. Mosely could be interesting, as would Cotto. Can his critics make a point that beating Delahoya and Mosely right now doesn't hold as much value as if he faced them years ago...yes...that is a valid point. BUT, they are a huge step up in level to who has fought in recent years. I don't doubt Floyd's skill. But if he, and anyone else, thinks he should be mentioned in the same breath as guys like Sugar Ray Robinson, Ali, Leonard, etc..............that is just ridiculous.

Fist of all make big fights. Oscar is a big fat well done in my book.

Secondly, make more exchanges in a fight... You know, engage a little more.

If he can't do that then fine fight some one smaller, like Mosley or Cotto.
If he runs from them, he might was well just keep running all the way back down to 140.

Not saying he needs to brawl, but he needs to remember it's a fight and not a track meet. His defense is good enough to stay in range and still be smart.

He could NEVER brawl, if he tried to he'd be KTFO by any kind of fighter...his hands are too brittle and he has NO power above 140.

I dont know, I think those who really hate on him may simply always do so. One thing I do think would benefit his legacy a hell of a lot, and silence even his biggest detractors, would be if he won a very close fight, and battled back to do so. If ppl saw him hurt, in trouble, to the point where he had to dig deep just to survive the round and keep fighting, then I think that would change some peoples minds.. Not mine, and I know for one thing Mayweather would never take unneccesary risks in the ring(which is why alot of ppl dislike him, in truth). But If he met the right opponent who could bring out another side to him, who could hurt him and make him trade a little bit, it would be basically the one thing we haven't seen from Floyd yet. Sure, Castillo I was a razor thin fight and many thought Floyd deserved to lose, but it was hardly the scenario Im describing. Floyd was never actually hurt or in danger of losing big, he simply let his foot off the gas in some of the middle rounds and waited too late to start landing big shots. It was still very very close, but he didn't close the show or overcome adversity in the fight. And it's no fault of his really, especially considering how effortlessly he won the rematch. Take Pernell Whittaker, for instance, and for one who can be compared to Floyd, had overcame adversity alot more in his career then Floyd has yet, plain and simple. He was robbed overseas against Ramirez, got sloppy and dropped on his ass by Roger Mayweather in a great fight that he came back to win via stoppage, he was royally screwed against Chavez with the draw, was in a fight all the way through against Buddy McGirt the first time round, had to come back from early KD's and a huge point defecit to stop Disobleys Hurtado in the 11th, then went on to lose a very contraversial fight with the Golden boy, took a man sized beating as a shell of himself against Trinidad... Those are all things that make people respect and appreciate a fighter, and Floyd hasn't had too many of those moments in his career. Now couple that with the fact that Sweet P still doesn't get his respect from alot of ppl, and many don't even know who he is, and I don't think its that surprising that Floyd is on the receiving end of alot of hate, and may not be appreciated in the future either. Just the way it goes, those who watched his fights will always know he was a great fighter.

what did you think of pernell whitaker when he was fighting?

he is maybe my fav of all time (will probably be replaced by floyd when all is said and done)

you could make an arguement to say that he "ran" (boxed ) more than mayweather, but when people talk about him all you ever hear is what a great boxer and defensive wizard he was (he was ) and that hes an all time great (he is)

i remember pernell fights where he would slip a few punches, counter, and then literally turn his back and jog away from the guy

i recall mayweather trying vigourously to make these fights happen somewhat recently
