Yeah Rampage is huge, Mayweather is small. There's a reason Mayweather said "let him fight a heavyweight."

Rematch in May and we will see if Rampage can beat him in the Octagon. Quinton has taken massive beatings since his win over Chuck: twice by Silva and once by Rua since then. Chuck has been on one hell of a win streak.

Honestly...I hate HATE HATE any of that MMA or Pride fighting shit.

Never have liked it & can't understand how boxing fans dig on both...not that there's anything wrong with that...it just doesn't appeal to me...in anyway shape or form.

It just doesn't do it for me...I mean if I want to see sweaty bikers rolling around & hugging & clenching & playing grab ass...I'd either download & copy the Village People's YMCA video or I'd purchase meself a plane ticket & head out to CuteMick's pad...you know he's got some MMA (many man's asses) at his crib. :P

Seriously though...I only kid ja Miz-icky...but fwock MMA in all shapes & forms.

it'll be so funny to see pbf in a mma fight, he can outbox prolly anyone in the ufc or pride.....

but it'll be over once someone gets a hold of that tight a$s.

pbf prolly be screaming on the floor in a second trying to tap the floor as hard and fast as he can. hahaha

pbf can outbox them but atleast any mma has a chance of knocking him out if they catch him with a good punch, as for pbf he has no chance against them in anything else beside outboxing and keeping away.

Wack you know i am with you on this. Fuck all those homos that want to roll around on the ground. They should try learning technique and becoming boxers. I think it is the most trash form of a sporting event since wrestling.

Anyone can put a tattoo on their head and get in a street fight.” He singled out UFC poster boy Chuck Liddell for an extra overhand right. “We should put Liddell against a good heavyweight, under Mayweather Promotions, and if Chuck wins, then I’ll give him a million dollars out of my own pocket.” PBF then shoe-shined all MMA fighters. “These are guys who couldn’t make it in boxing,” he said. “So they do (MMA). Boxing is the best sport in the world and it’s here to stay.”

Well not to rain on anyone's parade but part of what he is sayin is true. Boxing is a better sport than MMA, which is much more of a legalized street fight. Boxing is more of a sport; it is more of an art form; it is much more finely tuned. There are reasons why it is referred to as a "science". You can see this reflected in how the champions of UFC and Pride (with the possible exception of Fedor Emelianenkov) reign for much shorter time periods as in a UFC fight; titles change hands more frequently since in MMA there is a much smaller margin for error; it is much easier to win on one lucky punch or kick and have success (a la Tank Abbott) in the UFC rather than in boxing, which is just more specialized; more of a sport. UFC is one partlegalized violence to satisy the bloodlust of boxing "fans" who only want to watch the sport to see people get knocked out, and one part guys humping eachother. Dont get me wrong, I like violence too. I watch UFC and Pride sometimes when I want to get my fix for seeing someone's blood get spilled. But with that in mind, the majority of the time what it ends up turning into is an intense grappling session with the guys rolling around on the floor together trying mount eachother. I understand that there is skill involved in grappling and making your opponent tap out or choke them out; I respect that, but it is still pretty boring to watch, in my opinion. MMA will never replace boxing in my eyes as a sport or a pastime.

Mayweather may be a little off when he calls it a fad, but boxing has stood the test of time. The concept and sport of it has existed since 1500 B.C. You have to take that in consideration. MMA has a long way to go if it wants to compete with a tradition like that. Chuck Liddell is pretty much the man in MMA right now. He is the champion of his sport. Put him in a ring with gloves against a "good heavyweight", like say, Wladimir Klitschko would you bet on Chuck? I would be willing to bet that a good heavyweight, as Mayweather wanted to wager, would totally beat the crap out of The Iceman. By comparison, with UFC rules, I think 4 times out of five, Liddell would win; because of Chuck's toe to toe, slugging, exchanging style, don't be surprised if that boxer connected with that one good punch (which is much easier to land in MMA than in boxing because of how much lighter the padding in the gloves are). If you gave Klitschko or say David Tua the MMA gloves and put him in a ring with Liddell, don't you think they would be able to a lucky punch 2 out of 3 or 4 out of 5 times? Maybe if Chuck's ground skills were better the odds would be more in the his favor; to be successful in MMA fighting (and i give credit where credit is due), you have to be well rounded in everything, ground skills like wrestling and/or jujitsu, kickboxing, boxing and more. Boxing is a sport and a science, more than just a "martial art", but of all the martial arts combined in the UFC and in MMA, I think it is the single most powerful and useful across the boards. I think a really good pro boxer would, contrary to what a lot of people say and think, do really well in UFC, given six months training in ground defenses like jujitsu; but without it, eventually someone would take them down and they would be screwed. Unfortunately for UFC fans, we will never see this because boxers of that level of talent are paid over ten times what they would get for a match in the Octagon. That is what Mayweather meant when he said, "...these are guys who couldn't make it in boxing." That's not to say UFC fighters can't make it as pro boxers; the majority of them probably could make it to an extent (and still make more money than they do in the UFC)...but not to highly-paid world championship status like PBF or Oscar Delahoya where they are cashing in on multimillion dollar paydays.

And to make a long story short, mixed martial arts will never replace boxing in the eyes of true boxing fans. So like I said, part of what Floyd said is true.

I think Mayweather has a point about it being a "fad". Now I'll clarify that I've been following MMA religiously since 2001 (even longer than I've followed boxing). It was the reality show The Ultimate Fighter that put UFC/MMA on the map in North America. Sure it had a loyal following, but it has exploded since that show aired. If you asked the average joe who Chuck Liddell was in 2003, no one would have known.

So in that respect, Floyd may have a point. MMA has undergone a huge boom in popularity thanks to the TV deals and the Reality show, but how long are these new fans going to last?

I don't think so bro....a true HW with 5oz gloves!!!! are you kidding me?!? Liddel goes to sleep..if not permanently.....HW are KO'ing fighters with 10oz gloves...they would be killing them with 5oz gloves...most MMA fighters can't even take a glancing blow let alone one thrown from a trained fighter....

maybe in the ufc, where guys arent that good, but in pride the belts rarley change hands

there have only been 2 HW champs, nogueira, who was unbeatable (and to this day has never been KOd or submitted) until fedor came along

there has only been 2 MW champs (and silva had the belt for a few years before losing it a month or 2 ago)

there has only been 1 LW champ (the guy who moved up and KTFO silva)

and there has only been 2 LW champs, and this one does agree with what u said about margin of error, as fucking gomi inserted himself into a submission

    [/quote]

A lot of what you say is true, but seriously this whole "ground game is gay" crap really kills me, It VERY hypocritical. Rabid boxing fans defend the sport by calling it a science, which is completely true. However one of the reasons MMA is taking over boxing (IMHO) is because many don't have the patience for boxing; they don't see things a lot of us who have been watching boxing our whole lives see. They don't see feints, and subtle technique that we appreciate . . . Just like a boxer will not recognize the subtle technique of the ground game, and call it gay. Exactly like a uninformed fan will call boxing boring. Whoever says the ground game is gay, I hope you say that in public and Jiu Jitsu practitioner over-hears you.

Also I don't believe you could simply teach a boxer good ground defense in a matter of months. My first love is Kick-boxing, but honestly I have found a new appreciation for guys like liddel who can still knock people the F out while having to worry about say, a Div 1 wrestlers takedowns, or a Jiu Jitsu guy getting him in a flash lock that could snap his joints. It does make a huge difference. And YES, if a boxer does learn ground techniques, That BY DEFINITION makes him a Mixed Martial Artist. You can't really slice it any other way.

Ohh and about the tradition thing, MMA has roots dating long, long, long before UFC and the like. If you want you could consider Greek Prankration and say that was around LONG before boxing. MMA did not just materialize out of nowewhere with the UFC. How long have people been debating which is the best style?

However it is true, MMA as we know it now has only been around for little over a decade, and it is jus silly to try and say boxing is a "better" sport because it is more refined. Jesus give MMA some time, Theres a beggining and end to everything. At one time Boxing was pretty much where MMA was today (to make a log story short)

In short . . . Please look past UFC and the new host of drunken " The ultimate fighter" fans, look at MMA globally. Look at guys like Shinya Aoki and Miko CroCop filipovic, and try to realize that MMA could very well be a revolution in combat sports. True that MMA will never replace boxing, but they are different things. I really believe a lot of the boxing community is approaching MMA with total ignorance, and refusing to even give it a chance and study what is really about. It is maddening because A lot of MMAists are some of the most dedicated athletes I have ever seen and they get no respect from some people.
