The only fighter I think that has ever damaged their reputation by holding on is Tyson. Honestly, that's about it I think. SP was right, every fighter has stuck around forever so I mean, it's almost expected from fans because when it's gone it's gone. I wasn't around for 80's Tyson, and the only Tyson I ever saw was the beaten down Tyson and I saw him for a looong time, and that's all I can really remember when I think Tyson. Of course he did some other things to tarnish his rep too

You never have a second chance to make a first impression
Alot of boxing fans only saw the Ali who could only talk at Holmes,or the Holmes that plodded around the ring tying to find a way to hurt Tyson,or even the Willy Mays, who couldnt chase down a fly ball at Shea.

That's true but at the same time, some decades removed from both Ali and Mayes, I hear about Ali conquering Liston, Foreman and Frazier against uncertain odds long before you hear the names of Spinks, Holmes or Berbick. Willie making the basket catch at the Polo Grounds in 54 is what he is remembered for. I'm a huge Giants fan and even more of a sports fan but it took me a long while before I even knew that Mayes played for the Mets.

However, Tyson isn't going to be remembered for much more then biting Holyfield's ear off and going to prison in my opinion. At least that's how he will be first and foremost. So I get what you mean that Tyson never really got the chance to make a first impression on me but Mayes in the Mets uniform or Ali zoning out in hi8s corner against Holmes weren't really unforgettable moments, or infamous like Tyson's were.

I for one will like to remember Tyson during the post Lennox fight where hes caressing Lennox cheek with his hand.

They should come up with a senior league just like golf. That way they can fight other over the hill fighters.

Evander,I know youve got to pay for your 5 Million Kids, but 7 years ago you were a great champ,do you really think your helping your legacy by fighting Vinny Maddalone,or Fres "A great way to pad your record" Oquendo?
Holyfield is coming along fine being injury free and handled well at this point... He is gradually stepping it up and not sustaining alot of Punishment... His handspeed, combos look better than they have in the last 7 years as well as his workrate... People could hate all they want and take cheap shots but Evander is a specimen at 44, guys like Ali, Holmes and Foreman were flabby and out of shape and not well prepared as they got old, Holy still trains like he is 28 again... He should be supported as long he stays competitive and progresses towards a championship fight, Ronnie Shields has a good eye on Holyfield and will not let him take 2 much punishmnet in a fight

Your entitled to your opinion, but guaranteed you will be eating your words when he beats a Briggs or Valuev again judging by the terseness of your previous comments your dislike for Holyfield is blinding his progression and legitimacy to being a threat to todays heavyweights.. Albeit I think its a testament to how poor the division is, but hey if Evander can capitalize than more power to him

    No
Actually he was once upon a time a decent heavyweight
Now he's old, lacking decent power, and fighting sub-par opposition(and trust me,one of those fighters is managed by our promoter,I know of wich I speak)and running out of time
    It aint personal baby,its buisness

Hearns fights more as a something to do type thing...He does not take his comeback seriously.....Though I wish he would just stay away...Much as I love Hearns enough is enough....
