IMO he would only truley discredit the sport if he was in title bouts or if he was a highly ranked contender. I agree with mick, most of the guys in this sport are just fodder for up and coming potential champs to blast thru.

He's fine with losing and collecting a paycheck...  He may as well throw the fight

his paycheck ranges from 500-2000 on average. thats standard rates for a pro fight. If you want to make more money you have to win and climb the ranks. If i didn't want to be a big shot, i'd try out for the third sting spot at qb on an nfl team. I would make over 75k a year easily and not have to do anything but show up to practice. If he's fine living at the bottom of a sport and not being a somebody its his choice.

strickland is still saying a lot more then any writer or fan is. no matter how many more fights he loses. he still has more wins then any writer or fan. i don't think he discredits the sport, its his job to box. its not like his a super star in boxing that is throwing fights and dissapointing anyone. Well, thats how I feel... I'll be honest in 2 of the fights I saw it wasn't even slightly competitive. Reggie ran around the ring, and grabbed... I remember he threw 3 punches one round... c'mon! Gate keeper? Whatever you want to call it it's attrocious. The guy has made a living coming home with an L. He never expects to win nor do I think(at least in the fights I saw) tries on occation... Just saying he has more wins then a writer or a fan doesn't mean shit. I have 100 pencils in my draw at work but it doesn't make me an author...

its attrocious but you dont see the guy getting positive rewards or feedback from anybody do you? You wont see a sportscenter peice on him. You'll just see people bashing him and calling him a bum. Until this was posted, i didnt even know who the guy was. He will never be celebrated or given a championship belt or the spotlight that comes with it.

But this is the ugly under-belly of the sport. If Strickland didn't consistently lose, why would I (if I was managing a fighter) want any part of him if I was just bringing the fighter up through the ranks. There are plenty of comparable examples in other competitive disciplines, although this one is a bit extreme.

Yup, I'm with you I think mate. If we didn't have the journeymen who get beat every two weeks or so, then many boxers wouldn't actually get many fights at all. In the end, these guys are a creation of promoters who don't want the 'L' in their boy's column, but still want a bill full of fights. This is why guys like Strickland exist, and I agree the article is the real disgrace here.

You got to respect a guy like Reggie. He may not be a true talent but his heart and disire have obviously kept his chin up and kept him doing what he loves to do. Not to many Professional fighters can ever say they had over 300 career fights under there belt. And how can the Author say "this bum disguts me". Well at least he tried and dose what he loves to do. Not to many people can say that. So many years from now he can look back and see even though he didn't achieve what some people consider to be greatness, some of us others do.

Hey i heard Frank Warren considerd Strickland as Joe Calzaghe's next oponant , but i think they backed out when they realised Strickland still had a strong pulse
