Talk about punches hitting gloves, arms and elbows (not to mention air) -- watch Oscar's performance. In terms of punches actually landed, Floyd outlanded Oscar all night. What rounds could you legitimately score for Oscar. No more than 4, no way. I wouldn't see 118-110 as out of the question.

Seriously, watch the fight again with the volume off, so you don't here the ridiculous commentary or hear the crowd going crazy every time Oscar hits air. And then score the rounds.
Being completely objective and wtahcing the fight on mute, I gave Oscar 5 rounds

    OK, not quite 50%. 43%. 207 of 481. Compared to Oscar's 122 of 587 (21%). That's pretty damn dominant.

Dont get me wrong Mayweather did have the better punchstats (even though I think they are off) and he did win the fight. But those stats definately didnt tell the sory of the fight. It was a very close fight that PBF deserved to win.

    Correct!!

...and if PBF threw 43% scoring punches everybody I know and respect is blind

I just saw this. The HBO rewriting of history continues on its website. They're practically begging for your money for a PPV rematch:

"In a closely contested match in which neither man was able to master the other, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. won a loudly booed split decision over Oscar De La Hoya to claim the World Boxing Council super welterweight title before a sellout crowd at the Grand Garden Arena."

This is infuriating. These booing morons are the same ones who went out of control with cheering every time Oscar threw one of those embarrassing flurries of misses. The only thing that should have been booed about that decision is that it wasn't scored a UD as it clearly should have been. Tom Kaczmarek should be banned.

I wouldn't know about the coverage, but neither fighter landed more then 15 punches flush from what I saw. Oscar switched between a closed guard and an open one for much of the fight and when he had that open guard with his left hand on the outside of his hip, that's the only time Floyd was really landing with any sort of consistency. Granted that was a big chunk of the fight, but the punch stats don't tell the whole story.

Also, 117-111 is ridiculous. THat's giving De La Hoya 3 rounds. De La Hoya had 4 in the bank without any question at all. 115-113 is probably more like it.

118-110 is closer to the truth than 115-113. No way in hell Oscar took more than 4 rounds. Only 2 of them were clearly Oscar's.

Back to the origional post, over the last year or so I have lost pretty much all respect for the HBO broadcasting team (though the funny thing is I have gained a great deal of respect for Larry Merchant - at least he calls it like he sees it). I couldn't hear the commentating because the crowd at the bar was off the hook, but if it truly was worse than the nuthugging going on during the JT-Winky fight, then they should all be canned. What ever happened to objectivity?

I had the good fortune to watch the British coverage with the British commentry which was actually annoyingly 'on the fence'!! haha.. personally i thought it was a close (and quite boring) encounter with de le hoya outworking mayweather, wether De La Hoya was landing all his punches or not...he was the only fighter doing much of anything for the first 9 rounds of the fight.. but i can also see your points of view

Because Oscar was fighting his fight during those close rounds and the aggressor
Oscar didn't LAND anything! That's like saying Sam Soliman beat Winky Wright.
i agree with u shza. Oscars fans have been seriously reaching since their golden boy got his ass kicked by floyd.

I had it 116-112 for Floyd. Oscar won 4 round IMO. It wasn't a mismatch or real dominant performance by Floyd, but he clearly won, and there is no need for a rematch. Oscar had a good gameplan defensively, and tried to steal rounds with his flurries, he did what he could. I was surprised that he took FLOYD's left hook away, which is almost like Floyd's jab, in that he sets up most of his punches with the leaping left hook followed by a push. Pretty good fight overall.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

I'm glad to see I'm already being secretly sad-clicked by nut-hugging Oscar fans. I guess it was expected.

Here's some help with that, mate. CC 191. Agree with you completely.
