It would be an interesting fight to say the least.....Rocky's power and volume of punches and heart vs RJJ's speed, ring generalship, and pure athletic talent.

It could go either way....Rocky would be by far the best fighter Roy ever fought....don't know if we can say the same for Rocky as he did fight some greats but they were older....so maybe we can say RJJ would be the best (in his prime) that Rocky ever fought.

Can't blame anyone for choosing either fighter to win this

Marciano might be the toughest opponent Roy ever fought, but not the best. Bernard Hopkins was a better fighter than Marciano, Toney was a far better boxer than Marciano.

Which is obviously why both those fighters have losses on their records and Rocky doesn't.

I must say a Rocky Marciano-James Toney fight would be much more intriguing to me than Rocky-RJJ.

The Toney that fought Evander Holyfield and was in great shape would be a good matchup for Marciano...... Toney has a great beard and has deceptively fast hands, and a mean streak, pride and determination if he was to fight Marciano... Not to mention Toneys defense #1095  for the Idea, I think you should start a whole other thread on that Lyle, I think it would be a great topic of discussion and will probably get lost amoungst this thread if you dont give it its own topic

That's terrible logic, Tarver put roy down hard when Roy was past his prime. Marciano, while he has more power than Tarver, doesn't have the speed or anywhere NEAR the reach that Tarver had. I really don't know how you can compare the two.

    I'll take Roy by UD.
Past his prime? how do you figure that....he just won the Heavyweight title from Ruiz, two fights earlier, and it wasn't like he ever was in grueling hard fights before, so I don't get past his prime. As for Marciano he had conditioning second to none, freakish strength and bone busting power in both hands, as Jersey Joe Walcott stated " every time he(Marciano) hit you, you had to catch your breath". Thats frightening power my man. Roy might stay away for a few rds, but eventually he would get hit by something big and Roy's chin is soft.....so you do the math.

Prime Roy would probably win a decision or maybe stop Marciano on cuts.

Everybody always said this about Marciano, even when he was active ....... too small, no balance, poor technique, short arms, came to the sport too late. BUt he still whacked out nearly everyone he fought, he was like a bigger henry Armstrong - a kamikaze attack backed by the best conditioned body in heavyweight history.

Rocky would literally run after Jones, hitting him on the arms, shoulders, kidneys, back of the head .... he would hit him low and on the break and elbow him all night. Rocky was an animal in the ring and he would knock the heart out of Jones by the sixth. An exhausted Jones would be KTFO by the 10th.
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
