Personally if I was going to have to get hit in the face by any of these fighters I would choose Louis or Dempsey because of their smaller size. They would hurt for sure but hopefully not kill me.

I'd cry like a little bitch if I was tied up and awaiting to feel one of Sam Peters punches.

I'd rather be hit by Sam Peter.....because he has yet to really hurt anyone the way Dempsey and Louis hurt their foes....would you like to be Jess Willard when he had a broken jaw, ribs, and nose and spit and blood was coming out of his cheeks....or would you like to be Max Schmelling when he was torn apart by Joe Louis

Sam Peter's punches are hard but they don't do as much physical or cosmetic damage to fighters as the older guys punches did

Peter is a Heavyhanded and big guy but his shots are crude swipes.
Dempsey was a very over-rated puncher and a small man.apart from the damage he did to Willard (with allegedly loaded gloves) what were his best ko`s? i think it was Sharkey who said he was "a respectable but not devestating hitter".
anyway back to Peter,i think its crazy to even mention him in the same breath as the truly great punchers.if he is that good how did Klitchko finish their fight,never mind clearly beat him?

I think he does hit harder than the smaller HWs of yesteryears like Marciano, Dempsey, Louis, ect. Because lets face it, these guys were just cruiserweights and in some cases Light heavyweights.

I dont think he hits harder than Liston or Foreman though.

I think Laziness combined with the Freakish Chinned, Iron Willed Holyfield took way too much out of him. He was never the same after the first Holyfield fight. he also kinda wrecked Holyfield.

Yeah but you fail to mention the different rules, and the fact that fights were allowed to go on MUCH longer back in the old days.

Can you imagine the damage Sam Peter could do if he was allowed to stand over his opponent while he was getting up, like Dempsey was able to do against Williard?

I think Louis doesn't have the hardest punch like he was labelled nor does Dempsey they simply too small to punch that hard. I know its about technique, but there have been a lot bigger guys with "the punch" like Tyson and Tua for example. Foreman IMO hit very hard, but he wasn't a one punch kind of guy, and he was still 6'4 220 which is pretty skinny compared to the 6'5 240 Lennox who is 20 pounds heavier, but one inch taller. Marciano was like Pacquaio is now... a guy who wears you down more than one hit knocks you out.
